Background: Climate change is the 21 century's greatest threat to health. Anaesthesia is responsible for high levels of waste production, significant greenhouse gas emissions and extensive energy consumption. Our aim was to design an instrument to assess attitudes and knowledge among anaesthetists as well as their organisation's readiness for change regarding climate action.

Article Synopsis
  • Demographic changes highlight the need for improved perioperative care for elderly patients, as they face higher risks of complications during surgery.
  • A study conducted on 178 patients over 64 examined the effectiveness of various tests in a simplified perioperative risk assessment model.
  • Key findings showed that abnormal results from the Charlson Comorbidity Index, TUG test, and MNA suggest these tools have potential diagnostic value in identifying preoperative risks in elderly patients, especially those with cancer.

The TNM pN stage based on the number of metastatic lymph nodes is an independent prognostic factor in gastric cancer. Many studies have highlighted the phenomenon of stage migration and problems in comparing groups of patients with different numbers of total lymph nodes harvested within TNM staging. The current version of UICC/AJCC and JGCA TNM classifications postulates a minimal number of 16 lymph nodes as the base for N stage determination.

Background: N-terminal segment of B-type natriuretic peptide prohormone (NT-proBNP) is elevated in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) thus providing both diagnostic information and prognostic information. The aim of the present study was to determine the time course of NT-proBNP release in patients undergoing transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy (TASH) a procedure mimicking AMI.

Methods: We analyzed the release kinetics of NT-proBNP in 18 consecutive patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy undergoing TASH.
