Article Synopsis
  • Sleeve gastrectomy is a common weight-loss surgery, but it can lead to complications like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and conditions such as erosive esophagitis (EO) and Barrett's esophagus (BO).
  • A study followed 30 patients for 5 years post-surgery, finding that over half reported reflux symptoms, with 30% suffering from EO and 27% from BO.
  • The study concluded that patients with a higher body mass index (BMI) post-surgery are at greater risk for developing BO, suggesting the need for regular endoscopic monitoring, particularly for at-risk individuals.
