Background: Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (CME) following primary anterior-chamber intraocular lens (ACIOL) implantations is commonly seen. Intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA) injections have shown significant improvement in visual acuity and retinal thickness in refractory pseudophakic CME. Pseudohypopyon following IVTA injection is a known entity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated how different endoscope and sheath sizes affect irrigation outflow and bladder pressure during laser enucleation procedures.
  • Using a silicone bladder model, five sheath combinations were tested, revealing that the Storz 28/26Fr had the highest outflow rate and lowest bladder pressure.
  • Results indicate that larger sheath sizes improve outflow, while smaller sizes lead to increased bladder pressure, suggesting a need for careful sheath selection to enhance surgical outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of using vancomycin injection as a standard preventive measure during vitreoretinal surgeries, focusing on large-scale application over 70 months.
  • - A total of 31,720 procedures were analyzed, including major, minor, and silicone oil removal surgeries, with no cases of hemorrhagic occlusive retinal vasculitis or bacterial endophthalmitis reported postoperatively.
  • - The findings suggest that using vancomycin in infusion fluid during these procedures is safe and beneficial in reducing the risk of post-surgery bacterial infections.

Background: Radiation induced changes (RIC) are the most common complications observed post Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) and may be observed within 6-18 months post procedure. It has been observed that almost one-third of RICs are symptomatic and half of them are persistent. There is no way to predict which patients will develop these changes and to what extent.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case report involving a 25-year-old COVID-19-positive male showed that attempts to use the aerosol box for double-lumen tube intubation were challenging due to its restrictive size and the characteristics of the double-lumen tube, leading to an unsuccessful first attempt.
  • * The experience suggests that the standard dimensions of the aerosol box may not be ideal for double-lumen tube intubations, emphasizing the need to evaluate the box's suitability before use in clinical settings.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to identify and summarize the current literature on the most recent therapeutic agents and combination strategies for the medical management of lower urinary tract symptoms resulting from benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Recent Findings: The latest advancements in BPH therapy have been in combination strategies. Alpha blockers continue to be the mainstay of treatment, but research is exploring the synergistic benefits of combining them with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs), phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors, and beta-3 agonists.

The cloning and characterization of the complete coding sequence of the Clarias magur SRD5A1 (CmSRD5A1) gene, which encodes an enzyme responsible for regulating steroid levels by converting testosterone into 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), have been successfully achieved. DHT plays a vital role in enabling the complete expression of testosterone's actions in neuroendocrine tissues. The ORF of the full-length cDNA sequence of SRD5A1 was 795 bp, translating into 265 amino acids, with a total length of 836 bp including UTRs.

Eutroplus suratensis (Pearl spot) is naturally found in estuarine environments and has been noted to have a high salinity tolerance. By examining the impact of various salinity levels on the growth and survival of pearl spot, the present study aims to enhance aquaculture profitability by assessing their adaptability and physiological adjustments to changes in salinity and determining their potential to acclimate to a broad range of salinity regimes. Results revealed no mortality in the control group (0 ppt), and in 15, 25 and 35 ppt treatment groups.

To explore beliefs and practice patterns of urologists regarding intrarenal pressure (IRP) during ureteroscopy (URS). A customized questionnaire was designed in a 4-step iterative process incorporating a systematic review of the literature and critical analysis of topics/questions by six endourologists. The 19-item questionnaire interrogated perceptions, practice patterns, and key areas of uncertainty regarding ureteroscopic IRP, and was disseminated via urologic societies, networks, and social media to the international urologic community.

Introductions: The American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status Classification System (ASA) is a validated risk stratification method for patients undergoing surgery. There is an increased prevalence of benign prostatic hyperplasia and comorbidities in our aging population. The role of ASA related to postoperative complications in patients undergoing holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) has not been described.

Purpose: To identify a threshold for intrarenal pressure (IRP), that if exceeded, will result in renal parenchymal damage. Herein, we attempt to identify an IRP threshold by subjecting in vivo porcine kidneys to various levels of extreme pressurized irrigation. Our objective was not to simulate ureteroscopy treatment, but to attempt identify a threshold of IRP injury.

A sediment sample with high abundance (19 spherules in ~ 85 g) of spherules was recovered from Central Indian Ridge (CIR) segment S2 (70° 54' E, 25° 14' S to 70° 50' E, 24° 41' S), ~ 85 km north of Rodrigues triple junction (RTJ). On the external surface of the spherules, magnetite appears as crystals, whereas wustite mostly appears as a homogenous glass phase. These spherules are composed of wustite and magnetite hosting Mn, unlike micrometeorites which essentially host Ni.
