Outcome of Er, Cr:YSGG laser and antioxidant pretreatments on bonding quality to caries-induced dentin.

Background: This study aimed to assess the influence of different pretreatment protocols and antioxidants application on the shear bond strength (SBS) of universal adhesive to sound (SoD) and caries-induced dentin (CID).

Methods: One hundred and twenty posterior teeth had their occlusal enamel removed, then the specimens were divided into two main groups according to dentin substrates; SoD and CID, three subgroups according to pretreatments protocols control (no pretreatment), NaOCl-treated, and Er, Cr:YSGG-treated and two divisions according to antioxidant application (with and without sodium ascorbate (SA) application). All-Bond Universal (ABU) universal adhesives was applied in self-etch (SE) mode then resin composite discs were built.

Cardiomegaly Status After Open Repair of an Arch Aneurysm.

This report describes a patient with a thoracic aortic aneurysm who presented with chest pain and dyspnea. Preoperative studies revealed a massive cardiomediastinal silhouette. Within hours after the operation, a profound reduction in cardiomegaly was observed.

Outcomes after open repair of aortic aneurysms and dissections in cannabis consumers.

Objective: To investigate the influence of cannabis consumption on the mid- and long-term surgical outcomes of patients with aortic aneurysms or dissections.

Methods: All individuals aged 18 years and older with more than 6 months of cannabis use at the time of surgical repair for cardiovascular disease (aortic aneurysms or aortic dissection) between 2007 and 2023 were eligible. Patients were stratified into 2 groups based on their preoperative history of cannabis use: cannabis users and noncannabis users.

Heritable thoracic aortic disease is caused by dominantly inherited mutations in more than a dozen genes, including mutations that cause Loeys-Dietz syndrome. McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston convenes a regular conference that includes cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, cardiologists, geneticists, radiologists, and pathologists to formulate multidisciplinary approaches for the management of complex heritable thoracic aortic disease cases. Structural and political determinants of health among Syrian refugee young adults in the Bekaa, Lebanon: a prospective cohort study of the impact of security raids on perceived discrimination and well-being.

Objectives: In this work, which forms part of a larger study of a longitudinal intervention focused on empowering Community Mental Health Workers in a humanitarian context, we examine changes in and correlates of well-being of refugees as a result of discriminatory practices by the State, with comparisons motivated by a mechanistic model of well-being.

Design: This cohort study examines well-being at a single follow-up time as predicted by baseline characteristics in response to a changing social conditions including security raids on our participants; the parent interventional randomised trial focuses on a population of youth in a refugee context, but the present work precedes the main intervention period.

Setting: Refugee populations are among the most vulnerable globally, and the total refugee population is growing dramatically.

Evaluation of the Clinical Outcomes of Cyclosporine Short Infusion Versus Continuous Infusion Postallogenic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Background And Objective: Cyclosporin A (CsA) exhibits a narrow therapeutic index and large inter-individual variation in pharmacokinetics. Two intermittent and 24-h continuous infusions (CI) are both commonly used regimens in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), with no universal consensus. The objective of this study was to assess whether CsA as a 2-h, twice-daily intravenous infusion (2 h/12 h) is non-inferior to 22 h CI every 24 h (22 h-CI/24 h) in terms of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) incidence and adverse events in allogeneic HSCT adult patients.

Routine intercostal artery reattachment strategy reduces delayed and permanent spinal cord injury after open descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

Objective: During open descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm (DTAA/TAAA) repair, we used a routine T8-T12 intercostal artery (ICA) reattachment strategy from July 2004 to June 2009 and after 2017, we used a selective ICA reattachment strategy (reattaching T8-T12 ICAs only when neuromonitor signals were lost) from July 2009 to 2016. This study reviewed our nearly 2-decade experience to assess the impact of 2 ICA reattachment strategies on spinal cord injury (SCI).

Methods: All open DTAA/TAAA repairs performed from July 2004 to June 2022 were included, except for cases without intraoperative cerebral spinal fluid drainage.

Navigating clinical appropriateness: A review of management strategies for type B aortic dissection.

Aortic dissection is a catastrophic, life-threatening event. Its management depends on the anatomic location of the intimal tear (type A v B) and the clinical presentation in type B aortic dissection. In this article, the current evidence supporting clinical practice, gaps in knowledge, and the need for more rigorous research and higher-quality studies are reviewed.

Vascular Surgeon Involvement in Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams: Barriers, Challenges, Concerns and the Imperative for Integration.

Background: The effective management of pulmonary embolism (PE) necessitates coordinated care among physicians from diverse specialties within a time-sensitive framework. Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams (PERTs) have been developed as a strategic approach to optimize and expedite treatment by integrating and coordinating different specialties. The current survey audit aimed to understand the level of interest among vascular surgeons and the logistical considerations surrounding their participation within the PERT.

Syrian refugee young adults as community mental health workers implementing problem management plus: Protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial to measure the mechanisms of effect on their own wellbeing, stress and coping.

Unlabelled: This pilot randomized controlled trial protocol aims to (1) assess the impact on the wellbeing of Syrian refugee young adults (18-24 years) of being a community mental health worker (CMHW) implementing WHO's evidence-based psychosocial intervention - Problem Management Plus (PM+) - with adults in their community, and (2) identify the mechanisms associated with the outcomes of enhanced wellbeing and coping, and reduced stress among these CMHWs. Over 108 million people have been forcibly displaced as of the end of 2022. Mental health consequences of these displacements are significant, yet human resources for health are not sufficient to meet the needs.

Dapagliflozin (DAPA), a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, is one of the newer anti-diabetic drugs used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). DAPA exerted beneficial effects in many human and rat models due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic activities.

E-cigarettes in college: Associations between mental health and e-cigarette use with other substances.

Introduction: College students are a priority population for substance use prevention, and other studies have reported associations between mental health and e-cigarette use. This study described the association of mental health to e-cigarette and other substance use (ECIG+ use) among US college students.

Methods: We used Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 National College Health Assessment data among undergraduate students aged 18-24 years (n=55654) at 138 institutions.

Egyptian Pediatric Guidelines for the Management of Children with Isolated Thrombocytopenia Using the Adapted ADAPTE Methodology-A Limited-Resource Country Perspective.

Background: Thrombocytopenia is a prevalent presentation in childhood with a broad spectrum of etiologies, associated findings, and clinical outcomes. Establishing the cause of thrombocytopenia and its proper management have obvious clinical repercussions but may be challenging. This article provides an adaptation of the high-quality Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) of pediatric thrombocytopenia management to suit Egypt's health care context.

Comparative clinical evaluation between self-adhesive and conventional bulk-fill composites in class II cavities: A 1-year randomized controlled clinical study.

Objective: This randomized controlled clinical trial compared the clinical efficacy of self-adhesive bulk-fill Surefil One with a traditional bulk-fill composite in class II restorations.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-four direct class II composite restorations were categorized into two groups. Group I, control group (n = 32): cavities were restored by Filtek One bulk-fill composite with Scotchbond Universal (SBU) adhesive in self-etch mode, Group II, test group (n = 32): cavities were restored by Surefil One self-adhesive bulk-fill composite.

This scoping review serves as the first consolidated synthesis of existing research on parenting in the Arab world, aimed at identifying research gaps and informing future research agendas.

Impact of COVID-19 on patients undergoing scheduled procedures for chronic venous disease.

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically altered the medical landscape. Various strategies have been employed to preserve hospital beds, personal protective equipment, and other resources to accommodate the surges of COVID-19 positive patients, hospital overcapacities, and staffing shortages. This has had a dramatic effect on vascular surgical practice.

Open repair with latissimus muscle flap coverage for treatment of infected thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair.

A male patient, 70 years of age, was evaluated for an infected thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR). After presenting with persistent fever, a positron emission tomography scan found an infected aortic stent graft. The patient underwent open repair with explantation of the infected TEVAR, extensive periaortic debridement, graft replacement with a Dacron graft, and complete coverage with a latissimus dorsi muscle flap.

Transfusion of blood components in pediatric age groups: an evidence-based clinical practice guideline adapted for the use in Egypt using 'Adapted ADAPTE'.

Pediatric transfusion is a complex area of medicine covering a wide age range, from neonates to young adults. Compared to adult practice, there is a relative lack of high-quality research to inform evidence-based guidelines. We aimed to adapt the pre-existing high-quality practice guidelines for the transfusion of blood components in different pediatric age groups to be available for national use by general practitioners, pediatricians, and other health care professionals.

The Association Between State Characteristics and Latinx People's Treated Hypertension in Established and New Latinx Destination States: A Multilevel Analysis.

This study sought to quantify the contributions of state-level factors including income inequality, state's legislature political control, and Medicaid expansion in new and established Latinx destination states on Latinx individuals' treated hypertension. Mixed-effects logistic regression analyses were conducted to analyze 2017 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data from 7524 Latinx adults nested within 39 states. Overall, 70% reported being pharmacologically treated for hypertension, and 66% resided in established destination states.

The work of last responders is often considered "dirty work" and, as a result, stigmatized. Last responders are aware of this stigma, and stigma consciousness has been associated with negative health outcomes.
