The structural features and thermophysical and transport properties of dense nonporous membranes of the casting type from (co)polyamide-imides synthesized by the polycondensation of the diacid chloride of 2-(4-carboxyphenyl)-1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5-carboxylic acid and diamines 5,5'-methylene-bis (2-aminophenol) (DADHyDPhM) and 4,4'-methylenebis(benzeneamine) (DADPhM), taken in molar ratios of 7:3, 1:1, and 3:7, have been studied. The effect of hydroxyl-containing modifying fragments of dihydroxy diphenylmethane introduced in various amounts into the main polymer chain on the pervaporation properties of the formed films is discussed. It has been shown that the presence of the residual solvent N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone in the films not only has a plasticizing effect on the characteristics of film membranes but also promotes the preferential transmembrane transport of polar liquids, primarily methanol (permeation rate over 2 kg for a copolymer with a ratio of DADHyDPhM:DADPhM = 7:3).

The diagnosis and treatment of cancer of the tongue and floor of the mouth is a relevant problem, for 60–80% of patients first seek medical treatment only when they have late stages of the disease. The review analyzes the data available in the Russian and foreign literature on mainstay techniques for radiodiagnosing cancer of the mouth and floor of the mouth. It highlights the capabilities of computed tomography in diagnosing this pathology, in assessing deepseated anatomic structures of the mouth and floor of the mouth, and in detecting metastatic neck lymph nodes.

The results of clinical, genealogical, cytogenetic and molecular genetic studies of 113 patients from 96 families with different forms of mental retardation from Ukraine are presented. This study was held as part of the CHERISH project of the 7-th Framework Program. The aim of the project is to improve diagnostics of mental retardation in children in Eastern Europe and Central Asia through detailed analysis of known chromosomal and gene's aberrations and to find the new gene-candidates that cause mental retardation.

Aim: To study relations between disturbances of cerebral venous circulation and parameters of 24-h blood pressure monitoring in hypertensive patients.

Material And Methods: A total of 72 patients aged 28 to 60 years with essential hypertension of stage II have undergone 24-h blood pressure monitoring and MR-venography of the brachiocephalic veins on a low-field MR-tomograph using 2D TOF angiography.

Results: Symptoms of disturbed cerebral venous circulation were found in 60% patients.

The study included 31 patients with essential hypertension. Twenty-four hours blood pressure monitoring, assessment of neurological status and cognitive functions as well as single photon emission tomography were performed at baseline and three months after treatment. The beta-blocker therapy during 3 months exerted a positive effect on the brain perfusion that resulted in the improvement of cognitive function - verbal and visual memory, attention, psychomotor speed, thinking and visuoconstruction.

Unlabelled: Inability to delineate exactly periods of nocturnal sleep and diurnal wakefulness during 24-hour blood pressure (BP) monitoring causes reporting of erroneous BP values for these periods. We suggested a simple mathematical algorithm for detection of periods of nocturnal rest determined as period of low values of cardiac rhythm using data of BP monitoring itself.

Aim: To compare novel method of recognition of periods of sleep with 2 standard techniques: use of fixed time interval between 23 and 7 hours (1), or period of sleep according to patient's diaries (2).

The clinical and genetical characteristics of patients with phenylketonuria in the Crimean population is done in the present work. The comparison of clinical peculiarities of 28 patients, revealed by means of neonatal screening and that of 24 patients, the treatment of which was started late is presented. The prenatal diagnostics of 4 families with high phenylketonuria risk is conducted.

In the sinus-atrium preparation of the frog heart, exogenous adrenaline was shown to induce an ambiguous effect upon the inhibition of spontaneous contractile activity of the atrium in vagal stimulation. Obsidan did not affect the duration of the parasympathetic inhibition whereas adrenaline, against the obsidan background, considerably elongated the inhibition. Against the background of iochimbin, adrenaline practically eliminated the parasympathetic inhibition.

Radioimmunoassays, immunological and radioreceptor methods were used for a study of the levels of T3, T4, TSH, thyroglobulin, antibodies to thyroglobulin and microsomal antigen, immunoglobulins suppressing thyrotropin binding in 92 patients with diffuse toxic goiter aged over 50. There was discrepancy between the prevalence of severe types of disease in this group of patients and an insignificant rise of T3 and T4 levels. Changes in the immune status pointed to an increase in immunodeficiency which became progressive with aging of the organism, and increasing sensitivity to damaging agents.

Disorder of function of the hypothalamus-thyroid system in patients with diffuse toxic goiter is accompanied by change of the hormonal activity of the hypothalamohypophyseal-adrenocortical and hypothalamohypophyseal-ovarian systems. It is particularly marked in persons with heredity aggravated by thyroid diseases or/and diabetes mellitus.

The influence of readily available carbohydrates (sugar, xylitol and sorbitol) on the metabolic processes was studied in 80 children with diabetes mellitus. It was found that even low doses (20 g) of sorbitol and xylitol produced an unfavourable effect on the lipid metabolism and liver function. It is recommended that low doses (20 g) of sugar be included into the diet for children with diabetes mellitus.

The immune status was studied in patients with a familial nature of thyrotoxicosis and without complicated heredity. Disorders in the immune homeostasis, mostly expressed in thyrotoxicosis of familial nature, were revealed. Proceeding from the above the authors proposed a method of multimodality therapy of thyrotoxicosis with antithyroid drugs and immunomodulator levamisole causing a fast disappearance of the clinical signs of thyrotoxicosis, a decrease in thyroid activity and density and the reduction of the number of surgical interventions.
