Background: High sedentary times (ST) is highly prevalent in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), highlighting the need for behavioural change interventions that effectively reduce ST. We examined the immediate and medium-term effect of the SIT LESS intervention on changes in ST among CAD patients enrolled in cardiac rehabilitation (CR).
Methods: CAD patients participating in CR at 2 regional hospitals were included in this randomized controlled trial (1:1, stratified for gender and hospital).
Background: A high sedentary time is associated with increased mortality risk. Previous studies indicate that replacement of sedentary time with light- and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity attenuates the risk for adverse outcomes and improves cardiovascular risk factors. Patients with cardiovascular disease are more sedentary compared to the general population, while daily time spent sedentary remains high following contemporary cardiac rehabilitation programmes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: The aim of this article is to present the method and results of the data quality control system and audit within the Netherlands Heart Registration (NHR) using data of patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in the Netherlands as an example.
Methods: The NHR is a Dutch nationwide registry of all cardiac interventions, comprising data from all 71 hospitals, of which 30 are cardiac intervention or heart centres. Each year, within the NHR, data validation and verification is performed by standard quality controls and monitoring visits (audits).
Patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) are more sedentary compared with the general population, but contemporary cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programmes do not specifically target sedentary behaviour (SB). We developed a 12-week, hybrid (centre-based+home-based) Sedentary behaviour IntervenTion as a personaLisEd Secondary prevention Strategy (SIT LESS). The SIT LESS programme is tailored to the needs of patients with CAD, using evidence-based behavioural change methods and an activity tracker connected to an online dashboard to enable self-monitoring and remote coaching.

We therefore studied coronary and peripheral troponin compositions in relation to clinical variables of NSTEMI patients.
Methods: Samples were obtained from the great cardiac vein (GCV), coronary sinus (CS), and peripheral circulation of 45 patients with NSTEMI.
Background: Sedentary behaviour (SB) is potentially an important target to improve cardiovascular health. This study 1) compared SB between cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients and age-matched controls, 2) identified characteristics associated with high SB levels, and 3) determined the impact of contemporary cardiac rehabilitation (CR) on SB.
Methods: For objective 1, we recruited 131 CVD patients and 117 controls.
Background: Percutaneous renal denervation (RDN) has recently been introduced as a treatment for therapy-resistant hypertension. Also, it has been suggested that RDN may be beneficial for other conditions characterised by increased sympathetic nerve activity. There are still many uncertainties with regard to efficacy, safety, predictors for success and long-term effects.

We designed a randomized controlled trial to determine the effect of intracoronary infusion of mononuclear cells from bone marrow (BM) or peripheral blood in patients with AMI.
Methods And Results: In a multicentre trial, 200 patients with large first AMI treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention were randomly assigned to either intracoronary infusion of mononuclear BM cells (n = 69), mononuclear peripheral blood cells (n = 66), or standard therapy (without placebo infusion) (n = 65).
Objectives: We sought to study the impact of direct referral to an intervention center after pre-hospital diagnosis of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) on treatment intervals and outcome.
Background: Primary angioplasty has become the preferred reperfusion strategy in STEMI. Ambulance diagnosis and direct referral to an intervention center is an attractive treatment option that has not been studied extensively.

Hypothesis: Removing the ischemic trigger by revascularization using percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) might thus reduce central sympathetic activity in symptomatically stable angina patients.
Methods: A total of 20 patients with stable angina > or = New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II with persistent symptoms despite maximal pharmacological therapy and a clinical indication for PCI, were included in our study.

Methods: Outcome and QOL at one year were assessed in patients of 80 years and older who underwent PCI at our institution.
Two adult patients with presumed primary hypertension are presented. In the first patient the diagnosis of coarctation of the aorta was straightforward while in the second patient there was a substantial delay in reaching the correct diagnosis. A 32-year-old patient was analysed for hypertension in the outpatient clinic.

Background: Studies reporting the effect of MBMC therapy on improvement of left ventricular (LV) function have shown variable results. The HEBE trial is a large multicenter, randomized trial that currently enrolls patients.
Background: Sheath removal after PCI by registered nurses can improve patients' comfort and shorten immobilisation time. As sheath removal is not without risk, it is important to assure the quality of performance.
Aims: The aim was (a) to check if nurses' performance in 1999 and 2005 was in accordance with the protocol for arterial sheath removal and (b) to compare both measurements to explore differences in performance over time.
Aims: As of to date, the only large transportation trial comparing on-site fibrin-specific thrombolysis with transfer for primary angioplasty in patients presenting in a referral centre is the DANAMI-2 trial, with only 3% rescue angioplasty. In the present study, we assessed whether elevated (> or =15 mmHg) PCWP (pulmonary capillary wedge pressure) can be detected using the blood pressure response to the Valsalva manoeuvre in a group of elderly patients with various cardiac disorders, including atrial fibrillation and valvular heart disease, and healthy elderly controls. The Valsalva manoeuvre was performed in 93 patients (71+/-4 years) and 28 healthy controls (70+/-4 years) undergoing right-sided cardiac catheterization.
