Nonthyroidal illness syndrome (NTIS) affects patients with myocardial infarction (MI). Oxidative stress has been implicated as a causative factor of NTIS, and reversed via N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Male Wistar rats submitted to left anterior coronary artery occlusion received NAC or placebo.
