Association of SNP rs5069 in with Benign Breast Diseases in a Mexican Population.

Breast cancer (BCa) is the most common type of cancer affecting women worldwide. Some histological subtypes of benign breast disease (BBD) are considered risk factors for developing BCa. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genes encoding apolipoproteins A-I () and B () have been associated with BCa in Tunisian, Chinese, and Taiwanese populations.

[Prevalence of obesity and altered lipid profile in university students].

Introduction: Obesity is a serious public health problem because its association with the risk to develop various chronic diseases. Atherogenic dyslipidemia that often accompany obesity is also associated to the metabolic syndrome and to cardiovascular diseases. The transition from adolescence to young adulthood appears to be a period where major changes occur in the lifestyle which contributes to the development of obesity, however, little attention has been given to this transition stage.

EcoRI polymorphism of the metastasis-suppressor gene NME1 in Mexican patients with breast cancer.

Human breast cancer cells with high metastatic potential show reduced expression of the metastasis-suppressor gene NME1. There are two polymorphic sites for the restriction enzymes BglII and EcoRI, both detectable by Southern blot analysis. Although the BglII site has been analyzed for loss of heterozygosity, the biallelic EcoRI site polymorphism has not been studied in association with breast cancer, complications or metastasis.
