Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how the rest-activity rhythm of older adults in Brazil relates to overall mortality, looking at rhythm stability and fragmentation over time.
  • Data was collected from 1451 older adults using accelerometers, and the analysis revealed that increased rhythm stability significantly reduced the risk of death, while physical activity levels complicated this relationship.
  • The findings suggest that physical activity may play a crucial role in improving health outcomes, indicating that promoting exercise is essential for older populations.

Microalgae have become a promising novel and sustainable feedstock for meeting the rising demand for food and feed. However, microalgae-based products are currently hindered by high production costs. One major reason for this is that commonly cultivated wildtype strains do not possess the robustness and productivity required for successful industrial production.

Objective: The aim of this study was to perform dosimetric analysis of radiotherapy (RT) plans with or without elective nodal irradiation (ENI) and estimate whether the increase in mean doses (MDs) in the heart and lungs with ENI may lead to late side effects that may surpass the benefits of treatment.

Methods: The dosimetric analysis of 30 treatment plans was done with or without ENI. The planning and dose-volume histograms were analyzed, and the impact on the mortality of cardiovascular and lung cancer was estimated based on the correlation of the dosimetric data with data from population studies.

Parent training programmes have significant potential to improve the quality of children's early environments and thereby their development and life-course outcomes. The aim of this study was to identify and explain the extent to which parents engaged in two group-based training programmes, offered to high-risk families enrolled in a randomized controlled trial study called PIÁ in Southern Brazil. The programmes were: (1) ACT: Raising Safe Kids, a 9-week programme aiming to reduce harsh parenting and maltreatment and improve positive parenting practices; (2) Dialogic book-sharing (DBS), an 8-week programme aiming to promote parental sensitivity and improve child cognitive development and social understanding.

Liposomes composed of rice (RL) and soybean (SL) lecithins were produced by reverse phase evaporation and used for the encapsulation of phenolic extracts from Spirulina LEB-18 (S-RL and S-SL for liposomes of rice and soybean lechitin, respectively). Liposomes were characterized in terms of size distribution, polydispersity index, and ζ-potential; the chemical interactions between the phenolic compounds from Spirulina and liposomes were evaluated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to evaluate their crystallinity pattern. The release behavior of phenolic extracts was evaluated under two different pH conditions.
