Removal of estrogen hormones from water matrices is crucial owing to its adverse effects on aquatic ecosystems and human health. The present investigation applies an advanced approach to assess the effectiveness of combined processes (adsorption and visible-light-driven photo-degradation) for simultaneous removal of estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), and levonorgestrel (LEVO) in water, applying TiO-activated carbon composite selected through design of experiment (DoE) for process optimization. Based on a central composite rotatable design (CCRD), composites were synthesized with percentages of activated carbon (AC) ranging from 2.

Methods: Case-control study, including histologically confirmed oral potentially malignant disorders and oral squamous cell carcinoma cases and healthy controls. Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios for this association were calculated.
Objective: To investigate whether genes in the Wnt pathway, which have been previously associated with both oral clefts and oral squamous cell carcinoma, are also associated with oral potentially malignant disorders (leukoplakia, erythroplakia and lichen planus).
Materials And Methods: Case-control study: Dataset consisted of clinical information linked to DNA samples from affected subjects diagnosed with oral potential malignant disorders and oral cancer and their matched controls. Individual samples, clinical history, and potential risk factors were obtained through the Dental Registry and DNA Repository project of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pittsburgh.
Indigenous societies are known to have occupied the Amazon basin for more than 12,000 years, but the scale of their influence on Amazonian forests remains uncertain. We report the discovery, using LIDAR (light detection and ranging) information from across the basin, of 24 previously undetected pre-Columbian earthworks beneath the forest canopy. Modeled distribution and abundance of large-scale archaeological sites across Amazonia suggest that between 10,272 and 23,648 sites remain to be discovered and that most will be found in the southwest.

The treatment of schistosomiasis depends exclusively on praziquantel (PZQ), a drug that has been used since the 1970s and that already has reports of reduced therapeutic efficacy, related with the development of -resistant or -tolerant strains.

Design: Populational cross-sectional study.
Setting: All live borns with orofacial cleft registered at Brazilian Live Birth Information System between 1999 and 2020.
Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile and prevalence of live births with orofacial clefts in Brazil between 1999 and 2020.
Methods: Descriptive study. The population corresponded to live births with isolated orofacial clefts in Brazil registered in the Live Birth Information System between 1999 and 2020.
Objective: To analyze the use of salivary biomarkers to identify psychological disorders (anxiety, depression, and stress) in individuals with oral lichen planus (OLP).
Materials And Methods: The search was made in Medline/Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Virtual Health Library, ProQuest, and by cross-reference. Original case-control, cross-sectional, and cohort studies, in human subjects (age ≥18 years) with clinical and histopathological diagnosis, with or without the use of psychometric scales, published until June 2021, were included.

Background: Snails of the genus Biomphalaria are intermediate hosts of Schistosoma mansoni, the main etiological agent of schistosomiasis mansoni, which affects about 236.6 million people in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The World Health Organization recommends the population control of vector snails as one of the strategies to reduce the prevalence and incidence of schistosomiasis.

Method: This is an evaluative study with a qualitative approach. The development of the logical model was based on systematic methodologies, constituted from the analysis of institutional documents, literature review, search for essential elements that supported the implementation of the program, and the participation of stakeholders for discussion and validation of the data obtained.

Nonsurgical cosmetic treatments have significantly increased over the last decade. Therefore, this study aims to review the features that should be considered in orofacial esthetic procedures, thorough of a proposal of a new concept called the tissue mimicry concept (MIMT concept) and filling techniques. The MIMT concept described in this article comprises knowledge about anatomy of the face and associated structures, understanding of aging and how this process affects the facial tissues interactions (skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscles, and bones), interpretation of facial analysis, comprehension of dermal fillers characteristics and discernment of the correct filling technique for each region.

Methods: this is a cross-sectional study with 107 patients evaluated using a sociodemographic instrument, the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) and the quality of life scale (EORTC-QLQ-C30). Pearson's correlation test was used to evaluate the relationship between symptoms and quality of life.
Introduction: Vestibular migraine is a condition that associates headache and vestibular symptoms.
Objective: To evaluate body-balance with virtual reality posturography in vestibular migraine.
Methods: A total of 26 patients in the intercritical period of vestibular migraine were compared by means of the Balance Rehabilitation Unit (Medical/Interacoustics) posturography with 30 controls, paired for age and gender.
Introduction: Migraine is one of the most frequent and incapacitating headaches, with a high degree of impairment in quality of life. Its association with vestibular symptoms is common, including imbalance and postural instability.
Objective: To evaluate the body balance of patients with vestibular migraine through a static posturography test.

There are some questionnaires that can trace the patient's profile and quality of life impairment from dizziness, including the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and the Visual Vertigo Analogue Scale (VVAS).
Objective: This study aims to correlate the results of the DHI and VVAS in patients with vestibular dysfunction.
Many native bird species are currently considered rare in Brazil because they have been indiscriminately collected by animal traffickers and commercialized, leading to dwindling numbers in their natural habitats. Confiscated animals are at times destined for reintroduction programs that must ensure these animals do not pose a risk to native populations. Healthy or sick wild passerines may carry a great diversity of microorganisms.

Objective: To assess the immediate effects on the electrical activity of the transversus abdominis/internal oblique (TrA/IO) muscle during rapid voluntary upper limb movements before and after a sacroiliac joint (SIJ) manipulation.
Methods: Twenty healthy subjects who had innominate fixation, assessed by standing flexion test, were recruited. All subjects were submitted to SIJ manipulation and the TrA/IO muscles were evaluated bilaterally, before and after the procedure, through surface electromyography while ten random rapid upper limb flexions or abductions were performed.
Accidents with biological material are a reality in dental practice. The use of preventive measures such as the adoption of Standard Precautions (SP) is essential, thus this study aims to validate an instrument to check factors associated with adherence to SP among dentists. The scales of psychosocial and organizational factors that influence adherence to SP were the starting point.

There is reason to believe that gastric cryptosporidiosis in birds is caused by Cryptosporidium galli and Cryptosporidium avian genotype III, resulting in a chronic illness of the proventriculus that can lead to a debilitating and fatal clinical condition in birds of the orders Passeriformes and Psittaciformes. The objectives of the present study were to develop a duplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) that targets the 18S rRNA gene to simultaneously detect C.

The presence of lymph node metastasis is the most important prognostic factor but it is limited in predicting local relapse or survival. This highlights the need for identifying biomarkers that may effectively contribute to prediction of recurrence and tumor spread.

A common single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) Gly388Arg variant has been associated with increased tumor cell motility and progression of breast cancer, head and neck cancer and soft tissue sarcomas. The present study evaluated the prognostic significance of FGFR4 in oral and oropharynx carcinomas, finding an association of FGFR4 expression and Gly388Arg genotype with tumor onset and prognosis.
