Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to improve vaginal birth experiences by using non-invasive methods like aromatherapy, specifically testing the effects of Citrus sinensis L. (sweet orange) essential oil on pain and anxiety during labor.
  • A randomized clinical trial involving 84 pregnant women compared the effects of inhaling sweet orange oil versus a placebo, assessing pain intensity and anxiety levels, along with physiological metrics.
  • Results indicated that the aroma significantly reduced both pain and anxiety in labor, particularly for first-time mothers, suggesting it could be effectively incorporated into labor practices.

Immunization is a challenge for the elderly population and can leave this group more vulnerable to opportunistic pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. Due to this situation, while vaccines were in the development phase, hypotheses were raised about the role of vitamins and minerals in immunization. In Brazil, there was a controversy regarding the well-known COVID-19 Kit, a standardized prescription for positive cases that contained zinc, and vitamin D, and anti-parasitic drugs.

Background And Aim: Although reverse zoonotic transmission events from humans to domestic cats have been described, there is currently little evidence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) circulation in stray cats. Due to the evidence of natural and experimental infections in cats and the capacity to disseminate the virus among them, this study aimed to identify the SARS-CoV-2 antigen in stray cats from the Federal University of Sergipe in Brazil.

Materials And Methods: One hundred twenty six stray cats from the university were screened for SARS-CoV-2 antigens by random sampling.

Neuropathic pain is a high-intensity pain that can be caused by compression, transection, injury, nerve infiltration and drug treatment of cancer. Furthermore, drug therapy has low clinical efficacy, many adverse effects and remission of painful symptoms. In this way, natural products derived from plants constitute a promising therapeutic alternative.

Background: Non-syndromic orofacial cleft (NSOC) is a complex phenotype, involving multiple genetic and environmental factors. Association studies exploring the genetic susceptibility to this prevalent oral malformation show variability of results in different populations. Using a candidate gene approach, we aimed to verify the role of four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the susceptibility to NSOC in Portuguese patients.

Background: Given the impact of the pandemic in Brazil, vaccination is essential to prevent illness and death. Thus, this study sought to compare, after vaccination, the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 and the response to vaccination in the least and most vaccinated municipalities of a Brazilian state during the height of the pandemic when the Omicron variant was dominant.

Methods: We tested for the SARS-CoV-2 antigen and confirmed infection using an RT-qPCR and measured IgM and IgG antibodies in fully vaccinated participants from municipalities with higher and lower vaccination rates.

Pain is one of the most prevalent and difficult to manage symptoms in cancer patients, and conventional drugs present a range of adverse reactions. The development of β-cyclodextrins (β-CD) complexes has been used to avoid physicochemical and pharmacological limitations due to the lipophilicity of compounds such as p-Cymene (PC), a monoterpene with antinociceptive effects. Our aim was to obtain, characterize, and measure the effect of the complex of p-cymene and β-cyclodextrin (PC/β-CD) in a cancer pain model.
