Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the emergence of new viral variants has challenged public health efforts, often evading antibody responses generated by infections and vaccinations. This immune escape has led to waves of breakthrough infections, raising questions about the efficacy and durability of immune protection. Here we focus on the impact of SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron spike mutations on ACE-2 receptor binding, protein stability, and immune response evasion.

CL-11 circulates in serum as functionally distinct isoforms.

Collectin-11 (CL-11) is a pattern recognition molecule of the lectin pathway capable of interacting with collectin-10 (CL-10) and the MASPs to activate the complement cascade. Alternative splicing of the COLEC11 gene gives rise to two different isoforms found in serum (A and D). These isoforms vary in the length of their collagen-like region, which is involved in the stabilization of the trimeric subunit and the interaction with the MASPs.
