Background: The etiology of acute liver failure (ALF) remains one of the most important factors in determining prognosis and predicting outcomes. Methods: Files were reviewed of 1039 patients who were admitted to the Share'e Zedek Medical Center emergency department between the years 2012-2013, and received the coding of acute biliary disease. Of these, the first 100 cases were selected that met the following criteria: (1) a diagnosis of biliary colic or symptomatic cholelithiasis; (2) at least two biochemical blood tests performed; and (3) 18 years of age or older.

Goals/background: Data on acute variceal hemorrhage (AVH) in the United States is limited and the best method to stratify risk is not clear. Taking advantage of a prospective US cohort study, we aimed to (1) describe clinical outcomes of AVH and their predictors; (2) compare predictors of 6-week mortality.

Nucleolin is a proliferation-associated protein that is overexpressed in multiple types of cancer. The mechanisms leading to overexpression of nucleolin in specific cancers are not fully understood.
