Effectiveness of screening for craniosynostosis with ultrasound: a retrospective review.

Background: Minimizing the ionizing radiation dose to children is fundamental to pediatric radiology. The most widely accepted imaging examination for evaluating craniosynostosis is computed tomography (CT) of the head, an examination that involves ionizing radiation.

Objective: To determine if sonography of the cranial sutures is an adequate screening examination for the diagnosis of craniosynostosis in patients with abnormal skull shape.

The management of gastrointestinal disease in Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome.

Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) was first described in 1959 by Hermansky and Pudlak. Clinically, HPS is characterized by oculocutaneous albinism, platelet storage pool deficiency, and ceroid tissue accumulation. It is a rare disorder that has been described globally but has the highest frequency in a cluster population in Puerto Rico.

Earlier gestational age at ultrasound evaluation predicts adverse neonatal outcomes in the preterm appropriate-for-gestational-age fetus with idiopathic oligohydramnios.

Oligohydramnios is related to adverse perinatal outcomes particularly when associated with fetal growth restriction. The purpose of this study was to delineate predictors of adverse perinatal outcomes in cases of preterm idiopathic oligohydramnios associated with appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) fetal biometry. A database of preterm AGA fetuses (< 37 weeks) presenting for evaluation of idiopathic oligohydramnios (defined as an amniotic fluid index [AFI] < 10th percentile) in the third trimester with delivery information and uterine artery Doppler indices (average resistance index [RI] and bilateral notching) available was prospectively collected ( N = 90).
