Laser welding was performed using different filler wires, ER70S steel, commercially pure iron, and pure nickel filler, in the context of welding X80 pipeline steel to assess the microstructure and mechanical properties of the weld metal. Introducing an ER70S wire promoted acicular ferrite formation in the fusion zone, compared to a bainitic microstructure in an autogenous laser weld. The use of pure iron wire was considered as a potential strategy for reducing hardenability, as it led to the dilution of alloying elements in the fusion zone, increasing ferrite content and reducing weld metal hardness to a level compliant with API pipeline standards.

A key challenge in metallic alloys with high ductility is understanding how microstructural inhomogeneities influence shear localization, leading to localized plastic deformation and material failure. In this study, we explore the phenomenon of shear localization in coarse-grained copper, a material traditionally regarded as having low susceptibility to such behavior. Contrary to conventional understanding, our findings reveal that microstructural inhomogeneities play a pivotal role in inducing extensive strain localization during low strain rate micro-mechanical loading.

Objectives: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most commonly used drugs to treat major depressive disorder (MDD). However, about 50% of MDD patients do not achieve treatment response to SSRIs and there is little evidence on which drugs are effective as second-line treatment in those who do not respond to SSRIs.

Methods: In this work, the data of 79 patients with MDD were analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of trazodone XR in the group of individuals treated de novo and those switched to trazodone XR after failed treatment attempt with SSRIs.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most often used medications to treat major depressive disorder (MDD). Despite their effectiveness in reducing depressive symptoms, several issues are associated with their use in MDD, such as limited improvement of anhedonia, emergence of emotional blunting, induction or exacerbation of insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. These are the preliminary results of a 12-week non-randomized, open-label, non-inferiority study comparing the effectiveness of trazodone in an extended-release formulation (XR) versus SSRIs in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Participants ( = 76) were recruited, and 42 were assigned to the trazodone XR group and 34 to the SSRIs group. The choice of drug was based on clinical presentation and relied upon the attending physician.

Narrow gap welding is a prevalent technique used to decrease the volume of molten metal and heat required to fill a joint. Consequently, deleterious effects such as distortion and residual stresses may be reduced. A review is provided, which first considers low-temperature diffusion bonding with silver nanomaterials as filler materials via thermal sintering for microelectronic applications, and then other recent innovations in low-temperature joining are discussed. The theoretical background and transition of applications from micro to nanoparticle (NP) pastes based on joining using silver filler materials and nanojoining mechanisms are elucidated. The mechanical and electrical properties of sintered silver nanomaterial joints at low temperatures are discussed in terms of the key influencing factors, such as porosity and coverage of substrates, parameters for the sintering processes, and the size and shape of nanomaterials.
