Use of posteroanterior reference guides for bone block or coracoid process transfer in anterior glenohumeral instability: a cadaveric study of the relationship to the suprascapular nerve.

Background: Iatrogenic suprascapular nerve injury secondary to posterior drilling or screw penetration is a recognized complication of bone block or coracoid process transfers for anterior glenohumeral instability. We present the first cadaveric study that assesses the safety of posteroanterior reference guides and quantifies the relationship of the suprascapular nerve to posterior glenoid fixation with suture buttons.

Methods: Anterior glenoid bone block reconstruction with suture buttons utilizing a posteroanterior reference guide was performed in 10 fresh frozen cadavers via a posterior portal.

Tobacco consumption increases the susceptibility to develop infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB). Nicotine (Nc) is the main component of cigarette smoke with immunomodulatory properties, however, its effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) has been scarcely investigated. The present study evaluated the effect of nicotine on the growth of Mtb and on the induction of virulence-related genes.

Acromioclavicular joint reconstruction implants have differing ability to restore horizontal and vertical plane stability.

Purpose: Persistent acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) instability following high grade injuries causes significant symptoms. The importance of horizontal plane stability is increasingly recognised. There is little evidence of the ability of current implant methods to restore native ACJ stability in the vertical and horizontal planes.

Ligamentous and capsular restraints to anterior-posterior and superior-inferior laxity of the acromioclavicular joint: a biomechanical study.

Background: Approximately 9% of shoulder girdle injuries involve the acromioclavicular joint (ACJ). There is no clear gold standard or consensus on surgical management of these injuries, in part perpetuated by our incomplete understanding of native ACJ biomechanics. We have therefore conducted a biomechanical study to assess the stabilizing structures of the ACJ in superior-inferior (SI) translation and anterior-posterior (AP) translation.
