The phytochemical study of the Diaporthe species has revealed significant classes of mycotoxins and phomopsins. Dihydroanthracenone derivatives, chromanones and isochromophilones have also been isolated from Diaporthe sp. These findings led us to explore the Diaporthe perseae for phytochemical analysis that resulted in the isolation of four new compounds designated as isochromophilones H-K (1-4), alongside three previously identified metabolites.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral bacterial infections pose significant health risks, especially for diabetic patients, and the rise of antimicrobial resistance is a major concern in treating these infections.
  • In a study, researchers explored the effectiveness of combining fluoroquinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin) with omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, which showed enhanced antibacterial activity against identified strains.
  • The combination treatment was found to significantly reduce the minimum inhibitory concentration and effectively eliminate biofilms, with a notable bactericidal effect over a 24-hour period, suggesting it could be a promising strategy for treating oral bacterial infections.

The significance of this study lies in its exploration of bioactive plant extracts as a promising avenue for combating oral bacterial pathogens, offering a novel strategy for biofilm eradication that could potentially revolutionize oral health treatments. Oral bacterial infections are common in diabetic patients; however, due to the development of resistance, treatment options are limited. Considering the excellent antimicrobial properties of phenolic compounds, we investigated them against isolated oral pathogens using and models.

Oral bacterial biofilms are the main reason for the progression of resistance to antimicrobial agents that may lead to severe conditions, including periodontitis and gingivitis. Essential oil-based nanocomposites can be a promising treatment option. We investigated cardamom, cinnamon, and clove essential oils for their potential in the treatment of oral bacterial infections using and computational tools.

Improper disposal of household and industrial waste into water bodies has transformed them into de facto dumping grounds. Plastic debris, weathered on beaches degrades into micro-particles and releases chemical additives that enter the water. Microplastic contamination is documented globally in both marine and freshwater environments, posing a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems.

  • Mangifera indica (mango) peels are often discarded but contain important bioactive compounds, including flavonoids and xanthonoids, with potential health benefits, particularly for diabetes management.
  • The methanolic extract of the Langra variety of mango showed lower phenol concentrations compared to its chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions, while the Sindhri variety exhibited similar patterns with higher concentrations in the other extracts.
  • Both varieties demonstrated significant antidiabetic properties, particularly through α-glucosidase inhibition and preventing the formation of advanced glycation end products, indicating that mango peel waste could be valuable in diabetes treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on improving chronic wound healing, particularly in patients with diabetes, by investigating matrix metalloproteinases and their selective inhibitors as potential treatments.
  • Six compounds from Roxb were analyzed using docking studies with Autodock Vina, targeting human MMP 2 and MMP 9, and were visually assessed with Discovery Studio and Pymol.
  • Results showed that most compounds adhered to Lipinski's rule for drug-like properties, exhibited strong binding energies with the target proteins, and demonstrated promising bioactivity without skin irritancy, indicating potential for therapeutic use in wound healing.

Several types of microbial infections are caused by that has developed resistance to antimicrobial agents We therefore investigated the role of plant polyphenols against using in silico and models. The clinical strains of were investigated for determination of resistance pattern and resistance mechanisms including efflux pump, extended spectrum beta lactamase, phenotype detection of AmpC production, and Metallo-β-lactamase. The polyphenolic compounds were docked against transcription regulator BfmR (PDB ID 6BR7) and antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and anti-quorum sensing activities were performed.
