Women encompass about 20% of all the traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) population and there is increased incidence and prevalence of women with SCIs. The most recent data estimate that approximately 40,000-45,000 women with SCI are living in the United States, increasing from previous years, with the most common cause still being motor vehicle collisions. Throughout their lifespan, women with SCI present with unique healthcare needs compare to the male population.

Background: The International Neuroblastoma Risk Group (INRG) classifier utilizes a staging system based on pretreatment imaging criteria in which image-defined risk factors (IDRFs) are used to evaluate the extent of locoregional disease. Children's Oncology Group (COG) study ANBL0531 prospectively examined institutional determination of IDRF status and compared that to a standardized central review.

Methods: Between 9/2009-6/2011, patients with intermediate-risk neuroblastoma were enrolled on ANBL0531 and had IDRF assessment at treating institutions.

Article Synopsis
  • The primary aim of rare plant translocation is to establish self-sustaining populations that can endure over time, but most studies only analyze short-term success metrics like survival and reproduction.
  • A comprehensive analysis of 275 monitored at-risk plant translocations revealed that management techniques play a critical role in short-term success, while site attributes and species traits are more significant for long-term population persistence.
  • Key findings indicated that larger founder sizes enhance reproductive potential, whereas poor habitat quality and low seed production in species heighten the risk of extinction in the long run; effective management can help mitigate these challenges.

Objective: To describe the clinical and histopathological features of ocular abnormalities noted in a litter of black-footed ferrets (Mustela nigripes), including corneal opacification, cataracts, persistent pupillary membranes, microphthalmia, symblepharon and anterior segment malformation.

Animals Studied: A litter of eight black-footed ferrets examined at 10 weeks old with a history of ophthalmia neonatorum first noted at 7 days old and histopathological examination of three globes from three ferrets of the same litter between 5 and 7 months old following routine subconjunctival enucleation.

Procedures: Due to the fractious nature of black-footed ferrets, slit-lamp biomicroscopic examination was performed under general isoflurane anesthesia at 10 weeks of age.

Background:  Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is one of the most preventable causes of intellectual disability in the world. Screening programs have led to earlier detection of CH, and children with adequate thyroid supplementation can have minor long-term differences in overall neuropsychological testing compared to baseline.

Purpose:  Despite early identification, up to one-fourth of children born with CH suffer from hearing loss even with early and adequate thyroid hormone supplementation.

Intensities of lines in the near-infrared second overtone band (3-0) of ^{12}C^{16}O are measured and calculated to an unprecedented degree of precision and accuracy. Agreement between theory and experiment to better than 1‰ is demonstrated by results from two laboratories involving two independent absorption- and dispersion-based cavity-enhanced techniques. Similarly, independent Fourier transform spectroscopy measurements of stronger lines in this band yield mutual agreement and consistency with theory at the 1‰ level.

Although the Voigt profile has long been used to analyze absorption spectra, the quest for increased precision, accuracy and generality drives the application of advanced models of atomic and molecular line shapes. To this end, the Hartmann-Tran profile is now recommended as a standard for high-resolution spectroscopy because it parameterizes relevant higher-order physical effects, is computationally efficient, and reduces to other widely used profiles as limiting cases. This work explores the uncertainty with which line shape parameters can be obtained from constrained multi-spectrum fits of spectra simulated with this standard profile, varying uncertainty levels in the spectrum detuning and absorption axes, and spanning a range of sampling density, pressure, and line shape parameter values.

Objectives: In recent years, outbreaks and a rising incidence of diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis have occurred in Asia, particularly in older children.

Methods: A systematic search of MEDLINE and Embase was conducted from January 2000 to October 2020 to identify the epidemiology of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and poliomyelitis in children and adolescents (aged 3-18 years) in Asia. The results were then related to vaccination schedules, booster coverage rates, pertussis source of infection, and booster immunogenicity, as identified by a pragmatic review.

In 2019, the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health (WV BPH), Cabell-Huntington Health Department (CHHD), and CDC collaborated to respond to an HIV outbreak among people who inject drugs (PWID). CDC, WV BPH, and CHHD formed a cross-agency communications team to establish situational awareness, identify knowledge gaps, and establish key audiences for messages, including the general population, PWID, and clinical and social service providers. The team disseminated up-to-date information about the outbreak, and prioritized messages addressing stigma related to drug use, syringe services programs, and HIV.

This paper outlines the major updates of the line-shape parameters that were performed for the nitrous oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) molecules listed in the HITRAN2020 database. We reviewed the collected measurements for the air- and self-broadened NO and CO spectra to determine proper values for the spectroscopic parameters. Careful comparisons of broadening parameters using the Voigt and speed-dependent Voigt line-shape profiles were performed among various published results for both NO and CO.

We measured air broadening in the (30012) ← (00001) carbon dioxide () band up to using frequency-agile rapid scanning cavity ring-down spectroscopy. By using synthetic air samples with varying levels of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, multi-spectrum fitting allowed for the collisional broadening terms of each major air component to be simultaneously determined in addition to advanced line shape parameters at atmospherically relevant mixing ratios. These values were compared to broadener-specific line shape parameters from the literature.

Social support is one of the most robust predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Yet, little is known about factors that moderate the relationship between social support and PTSD symptom severity. This meta-analysis estimated the overall effect size of the relationship between self-reported social support and PTSD severity and tested meaningful demographic, social support, and trauma characteristics that may moderate this association using both cross-sectional and longitudinal effect sizes.
