Background: Glioblastoma is the most common type of malignant glioma and is 1 of the most frequent primary tumors during adult life. The platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) has been studied as an inflammatory marker associated with the prognosis of glioblastoma in previous studies. Considering the morbidity associated with this condition, it is important that there are other ways of assessing the prognosis that do not require invasive methods.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFibrolipomatous hamartoma is a rare benign tumor-like condition that affects most commonly the median nerve. The diagnosis is usually confirmed through its typical appearance on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) without the need for a nerve biopsy. There are divergent views regarding treatment of this entity, but open carpal tunnel release for nerve decompression currently constitutes the standard care for alleviation of compressive neuropathy of the median nerve.

Methods: A descriptive study was carried out using data from the Mortality Information System (SIM) of the Ministry of Health, according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9 and ICD-10), between 1979 and 2019.
Objective: To evaluate publication trends in nonobstetric brachial plexus injury research.
Methods: In September 2020, Scopus was searched for articles on nonobstretric brachial plexus injury. Citation count, year of publication, country of corresponding author and its income category, destiny journal and its 5-year impact factor (IF), and research type were retrieved.

Gliomas are the main type of intra-axial primary brain tumors. We performed a systematic review of studies on the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and its role in the prognosis of patients with gliomas. An English-language literature-based search, using the PubMed and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde databases, was conducted for papers published until May 2, 2020.

The recurrence of chronic subdural haematomas is an important concern, considering that elderly patients are the most affected and reoperations in these patients may represent a risk of neurological and clinical complications. In accordance with the inflammatory theory regarding CSDH and its recurrence, we aimed to evaluate the role of an inflammatory marker, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), as a risk factor and prognostic variable for CSDH recurrence.

Ruptured intracranial aneurysms, as the leading cause of spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), represents an emergency with high morbi-mortality. The comprehension of the underlying pathology that involves inflammatory and immune responses, through the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), could help to predict complications such as delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) or rebleeding and the functional outcome. Systematic review of English-based literature through PubMed and Biblioteca Vitural em Saúde (BVS) to find papers discussing the use of NLR in the aSAH setting.

The incidence of RIBPN is more common in patients treated for carcinoma of the breast and Hodgkin lymphoma. With the improvement in radiation techniques, the incidence of injury to the brachial plexus following radiotherapy has dramatically reduced.

We report five cases with rare etiologies of nerve entrapments: one in the lower limb and four in the upper limbs with the final diagnosis made only during the operation. The patients evolved without post-operative complications and had good outcomes.

Background: Shoulder abduction is crucial for daily activities, and its restoration is one of the surgical priorities. We evaluated the predictive factors of shoulder abduction functional outcome after spinal accessory nerve (SAN) to suprascapular nerve (SSN) transfer, with special emphasis on the effect of time from injury to the surgery, in the treatment of traumatic brachial plexus injuries.
Method: This cohort included adult patients who underwent SAN-to-SSN transfer with a preoperative Medical Research Council strength grade 0 and a follow-up of minimum 18 months.
Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global problem and is the greatest contributor to death and disability among all trauma-related injuries worldwide. Road traffic accidents are an important cause of TBI. The purpose of this paper is to present the first data on TBI in Angola.
