Multiple emerging lines of evidence indicate that the microbiome contributes to aging and cognitive health. However, the roles of distinct microbial components, such as viruses (virome) and their interactions with bacteria (bacteriome), as well as their metabolic pathways (metabolome) in relation to aging and cognitive function, remain poorly understood. Here, we present proof-of-concept results from a pilot study using datasets ( = 176) from the Microbiome in Aging Gut and Brain (MiaGB) consortium, demonstrating that the human virome signature significantly differs across the aging continuum (60s vs.

Background: Diarrhoea is defined as stool frequency of more than three times in twenty-four hours or a stool weight of more than two hundred grams and it is labelled as chronic diarrhoea if it persists for more than four weeks. Chronic diarrhoea is a common gastrointestinal problem worldwide that affects three to fifteen percent of population. Objective was to determine the efficacy of vitamin B 12 replacement in treatment of chronic diarrhoea in vitamin B deficient patients.

Breast milk is a vital source of nutrition for breastfed infants, providing essential nutrients and elements but, in some cases, toxic ones. This is the first case-control study that investigated the elemental profile of breast milk samples collected from mothers residing in Matiari (Sindh), a region with insufficient industrial waste management, and its potential impact on infants' anthropometrics. Precisely, 62 milk samples, including 42 cases and 20 controls, were analyzed using the ICP-MS technique.

Background The Mediterranean diet (MD) has been recognized by several studies as beneficial for health improvement. The degree of adherence to this diet has also been evaluated using several scales, particularly time-consuming measures such as the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). This study aims to (a) adapt into Moroccan Arabic the 14-item Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS), which is a simple and brief tool that assesses the degree of diet adherence and was used in the Prevencion con Dieta Mediterranea (PREDIMED) study, and (b) determine its psychometric properties.

Ion-selective electrode (ISE) potentiometry is reliable only if on-site calibration using a standard solution is performed before ion measurements. The complex device and operation required for calibration hinder the implementation of ISEs in decentralized sensing. Reported herein is a new type of ISE that is calibrated by a built-in component of the sensor without requiring any fluid handling processes.

Due to some limitations associated with the atmospheric residual phase in Sentinel-1 data interferometry during the Jiashi earthquake, the detailed spatial distribution of the line-of-sight (LOS) surface deformation field is still not fully understood. This study, therefore, proposes an inversion method of coseismic deformation field and fault slip distribution, taking atmospheric effect into account to address this issue. First, an improved inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation tropospheric decomposition model is utilised to accurately estimate the turbulence component in tropospheric delay.

β-thalassemia is one of the most common monogenic disorders and a life-threatening health issue in children. A cost-effective and safe therapeutic approach to treat this disease is to reactivate the γ-globin gene for fetal hemoglobin (HbF) production that has been silenced during infancy. Hydroxyurea (HU) is the only FDA approved HbF inducer.

In this paper, we present a fully Lagrangian method based on the radial basis function (RBF) finite difference (FD) method for solving convection-diffusion partial differential equations (PDEs) on evolving surfaces. Surface differential operators are discretized by the tangent plane approach using Gaussian RBFs augmented with two-dimensional (2D) polynomials. The main advantage of our method is the simplicity of calculating differentiation weights.

Consumption of areca nut products is the most common cause of oral cancers, particularly in South Asian countries. This study evaluates the cytotoxic and necrotizing effects of areca nut and its formulations on normal human gingival fibroblasts (HGF-1) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC, CAL-27) cell lines. Identification of various carcinogens and adulterants using LC-HR-ESI-MS/MS analysis was performed in the extracts of areca nut and its products.

Unlabelled: The stability of polygeline-based blood plasma expanders Haemaccel and Gelofusine were examined in context of their sensitivity to environmental factors, because drug stability is critical element in accurate and appropriate delivery of drug therapy to patients. This study was initiated to specifically and critically assess stability of Haemaccel and Gelofusine according to ICH guidelines with the aim of delivering safe, appropriate, acceptable, and efficacious administration of drug product in any situation. This study revealed that Haemaccel and Gelofusine are suitable for storage at different temperature and at different storage conditions until its expiry date, shelf life, or utility time, for their quality, safety, suitability, acceptability, and efficacy.
