Assessing the feasibility and acceptability of a peer-based communication coaching model among hospital clinicians.

Objective: Communication coaching shows promise for improving clinician communication yet few have assessed the feasibility of having peers coach each other. We conducted a proof-of-concept study to test the feasibility and acceptability of a peer-based communication coaching program in an inpatient setting.

Methods: We trained three clinician communication coaches (two physicians and one physician assistant) and randomized half of the 27 clinicians working on the general medicine floor to receive coaching.

Multiyear Outcomes of a Population-Oriented Care Redesign in an Internal Medicine Residency Continuity Clinic.

The cornerstone of ambulatory care training for internal medicine residents is the continuity clinic, which often serves medically and psychosocially complex patients. We conducted and evaluated a population-oriented redesign to improve care for "high-needs" patients and the resident experience at a hospital-based safety net primary care internal medicine practice in the Southeastern U.S.

The utility of the aortic dissection team: outcomes and insights after a decade of experience.

Background: Mortality rates following acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) repair are reduced when operations are performed by a high-volume acute aortic dissection (AAD) team, leading to efforts to centralize ATAAD care. Here, we describe our experience with ATAAD repair by our AAD team over the last 10 years, with a focus on patient selection, transfer protocols, operative approach, and volume trends over time.

Methods: An AAD team was implemented at our institution in 2005, with dedicated high-volume AAD surgeons, a multidisciplinary approach to thoracic aortic disease management, and a standardized protocol for ATAAD repair.
