Background And Objectives: Prospective data on presentation and outcomes of colorectal cancer (CRC) in Nigeria are limited; however, emergency presentation with advanced disease is thought common.
Methods: Consecutive CRC patients presenting at six sites over 6 years were included. Risk factors for emergency presentation were evaluated using logistic regression methods.
Background: Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with a high case fatality rate in resource-limited settings. The independent predictors of poor outcome after ICH in sub-Saharan Africa remains to be characterized in large epidemiological studies. We aimed to determine factors associated with 30-day fatality among West African patients with ICH.

Aim Of The Study: The aim of this study was to investigate lower extremity peripheral artery disease (LEPAD) in the foot arteries of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, with and without clinical symptoms of arterial insufficiency, using triplex Doppler ultrasound.
Materials And Methods: Forty-seven consecutive adult subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and 47 age-matched and sex-matched non-diabetic controls were recruited (94 limbs each). Ankle-brachial index (ABI), fasting blood glucose assay, glycated haemoglobin assay and triplex sonography of the dorsalis pedis artery (DPA) and the distal posterior tibial artery (PTA) in both feet were performed.
Background: The relationship of diet with stroke risk among Africans is not well understood.
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between dietary patterns and stroke risk among West Africans.
Methods: In this multi-center case-control study, 3684 stroke patients matched (for age and sex) with 3684 healthy controls were recruited from Nigeria and Ghana.

Background: Mammography, the most preferred tool for breast cancer screening, has very poor uptake in Nigeria, even among health workers. No nationwide study has been done to ascertain this. This study sought to determine the current perceptions and practices of Nigerian female health care practitioners on mammography screening across different types and levels of health care institutions in the country's 6 geopolitical zones.

Methods: This was a hospital-based cross-sectional study on 400 women with apparently normal pregnancy within the age range of 18-45 years recruited from the Antenatal Clinic of our hospital. The fetal GA was estimated by the last menstrual period (LMP).
Purpose: Post-stroke arthritic changes that may compromise rehabilitation have been described in the upper and lower limbs. We aimed at evaluating the soft tissue arthritic changes associated with pain in hemiplegic knees of stroke patients in our environment.
Material And Methods: Hemiplegic and non-hemiplegic knees of 48 stroke patients as well as both knees of 26 apparently healthy controls were evaluated with a 7.
Background: Endothelial dysfunction (ED), as ascertained by brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD), is a known feature of sickle cell disease (SCD), which is present both in crisis and in steady state. The assessment of FMD was introduced to examine the vasodilator function. Our objective was to establish the relationship between ED determined by FMD, biomarkers of renal dysfunction, and biomarkers of disease severity in SCD subjects asymptomatic of renal disease.

Materials And Methods: One hundred and twenty study participants were recruited; 60 subjects with glaucoma and 60 age- and sex-matched controls without glaucoma. The optic nerve sheath diameter and lens thickness of both eyes were measured using a linear high frequency transducer with frequency of 6.
Objective: To determine the strength of association between fetal kidney measurements and gestational age (GA) in third-trimester pregnancies.
Methods: In a cross-sectional study in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, women in the third trimester of a singleton pregnancy who were sure of the date of their last menstrual period or had an early pregnancy scan were recruited consecutively in 2012. Standard biometric measurements were taken, along with fetal kidney length (FKL), anteroposterior diameter (FKAPD), and transverse diameter (FKTD).
Objective: To determine the cost burden of Neuroimaging and its contribution to direct total hospitalization costs (HCs) during one-time admission for first-ever stroke.
Methods: The clinical characteristics, direct itemised costs and total HCs for 170 consecutive patients with first-ever stroke, admitted at our public tertiary health facility over a 15-month period were evaluated.
Results: The records of 170 stroke subjects were reviewed.
Aim Of The Study: To evaluate the value of uterine artery Doppler indices and waveform pattern in predicting fetuses at risk for intrauterine growth restriction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
Materials And Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study including 80 pregnant subjects with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and two control groups. Uterine artery Doppler sonography was performed in all study participants.
