Background And Aim: Thoracic fractures can lead to death and disability. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate cases of upper and middle thoracic vertebral fractures due to trauma that had been treated, to determine the fracture type and treatment method according to age, sex, cause of injury, neurological status, fracture level, kyphotic angles, and classification methods and to discuss the results regarding that reported in the literature.

Patients And Methods: This study included 238 patients who were evaluated for post-traumatic upper and middle thoracic vertebral fractures between January 2012 and December 2020.

New Approach for Endoscopic Endonasal Transsphenoidal Pituitary Surgery: Modified Nasoseptal Rescue Flap.

Introduction: Endoscopic endonasal approach has become popularly preferred for pituitary surgery in recent years. In this study we described a new technique which is developed by the first author and which is modified from The Rivera-Serrano "salvage" flap approach. Aim: To investigate the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology as it contributes to spinal surgery education with the free-hand technique, and might reduce the error ratio.

Material And Methods: Ten candidates, with anatomy education but no surgical experience, applied 36 pedicle screws with C2-C3 posterior transpedicular fixation technique to nine vertebrae models produced via a three-dimensional (3D) printer.

Results: Using AR to apply pedicle screws to the experimental vertebrae model increased the safety screw ratio significantly.

In this report we present two elderly patients who were suffering of traumatic osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures and underwent successful kyphoplasties. Percutaneous kyphoplasty method for the surgical treatment of these fractures decreases the hospitalization, morbidity and mortality in these patients.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the 677C > T and 1298A > C MTHFR gene polymorphisms and their metabolic effects on the levels of folate, vitamin B12 and homocysteine in the serum of Turkish spina bifida occulta (SBO) patients and healthy individuals in disease.

Material And Methods: A case-control study was performed to detect 677C > T and 1298A > C MTHFR gene polymorphisms in 39 SBO patients and 34 healthy individuals. The folate, vitamin B12 and homocysteine concentrations in the serum of SBO and healthy individuals were evaluated and compared with MTHFR gene polymorphisms.

Organophosphate compounds are very toxic chemicals and used in widespread applications. The present study was designed to examine the role of exogenous melatonin against organophosphate toxicity in tissues (brain, heart, jejunum, kidney, liver, lung, muscle and pancreas) trace and major element levels of rats. Trace and major element concentrations in the tissues were measured in the sham group, the control group, prophylaxis with the melatonin group and therapy with the melatonin group (TM) by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy.

Nimodipine can improve cerebral metabolism and outcome in patients with severe head trauma.

In the present study, the effect of nimodipine was investigated in a patient with severe head trauma. Nimodipine was administered into the peripheral vein to prevent secondary neuronal damages in patients. The five patients in control group were treated according to the standard procedures without nimodipine.

Prenatal diagnosis of a fetal intracranial immature teratoma.

Congenital intracranial teratoma is a rare disease. A fetus with a congenital intracranial teratoma presenting with a hydrocephalus at 27 weeks' gestation is presented. Prenatal ultrasonography and fetal magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a huge, heterogeneous intracranial mass including the infra- and supratentorial region and polyhydramnios.

Repair of wide myelomeningocele defects with the bilateral fasciocutaneous flap method.

Objective: Five large myelomeningocele defects repaired by bilateral fasciocutaneous flaps are presented in this article.

Patients And Methods: After the neurological repair, bilateral fasciocutaneous flaps were raised, transposed over the midline, and sutured to each other.

Results: All operations lasted shorter than one hour and no major complication was noted in the follow-up.

A pneumatocyst in the cervical spine is extremely rare and to our knowledge only a few reports have been published in the English literature. Although the etiology and natural course of vertebral body pneumatocyst is unclear, nitrogen gas accumulation is claimed. A 65-year-old-man was admitted to the emergency department with neck pain and numbness and incapacity in his both hands and fingers.

Intracerebral hematoma complicated with brain abscess in an infant. Case report.

A 45-day-old infant presented with a rare case of intracerebral hematoma complicated with brain abscess which developed after vitamin K deficiency. He was admitted to our emergency department with complaints of fever and confusion. Physical, neurological, and laboratory examinations and cranial computed tomography identified vitamin K deficiency and intracerebral hematoma.

Intradiploic cavernous hemangioma of the skull in a child: a case report.

Introduction: Intradiploic cavernous hemangioma of the skull is seen rarely. Intradiploic cavernous hemangiomas arise from the intrinsic vasculature of the bone and generally picks up at the fourth and fifth decades.

Discussion And Conclusion: In this report, we present a 16-year-old child who was admitted with a swelling lesion in the right parietal bone and diagnosed as cavernous hemangioma after total extirpation.
