Ingested dietary fibres are hydrolysed by colon microbiota to produce energy-providing short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) that stimulate anti-inflammatory effects. Reverse genetics has been used to generate recombinant Newcastle disease virus with enhanced immunogenic properties for vaccine development.
