Background: One of the great challenges in the management of open fractures is postoperative infection with a higher incidence in Gustilo-Anderson type III fractures. Definitive management of such fractures in developing countries is usually with external fixators with its attendant complications such as deep fracture-related infection, non-union, and consequent increased re-operation rates. Recently, there has been a novel method of using antibiotic-cement coated implants such as intramedullary nails and locking plates in the treatment of infected non-unions with reported excellent outcomes.

Aims And Objectives: The objective of this study is to describe the pattern of missed injuries in trauma associated mortalities in the University College Hospital Ibadan Nigeria and to determine the relevance of postmortem examination in trauma related death.
Subjects And Methods: All cases of trauma- associated death in the Accident and Emergency Department of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan Nigeria over a ten year period from January 1997 to December 2006 were reviewed. Data extracted from the records included the demographic data, the mechanism of injury, time and duration of injury prior to presentation and the clinical diagnosis.
Background: Delay in surgical treatment is a source of distress to patients and an important reason for poor outcome. We studied the delay before carrying out scheduled operative orthopaedic procedures and the factors responsible for it.
Materials And Methods: This prospective study was carried out between March 2011 and December 2012.
Background: Road traffic injuries are major public health problems and a leading cause of death and injury around the world. Approximately 1.2 million people are killed each year in road crashes worldwide, with up to 50 million more injured.

Materials And Methods: We evaluated all open long bone fractures operatively stabilized at our center to determine the outcome of the various treatment modalities as well as the determinant factors.
Result: A total of 160 patients with 171 fractures treated between December 1995 and December 2008 were studied.
Purpose: Our aim was to assess the basic musculoskeletal competency of pre-internship graduates from Nigerian medical schools.
Methods: We administered the Freedman and Bernstein basic musculoskeletal competency examination to 113 pre-internship graduates from seven Nigerian medical schools over a three year period from 2008 to 2010 at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. Five specialist residents took the examination to test criteria relevance.
Background And Objectives: The need to attain and maintain good oral hygiene among pregnant women cannot be over emphasized as periodontal diseases in pregnancy have been linked with poor pregnancy outcomes. This study assessed the variables that affect oral hygiene status among pregnant women in a south-western Nigerian locality.
Methodology: Four hundred and five pregnant Nigerian women were assessed for their oral hygiene status using the Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified.
Introduction: An environment in which traffic regulations are not strictly enforced often is characterized by carnage from motor vehicular crashes resulting in severe injuries with unacceptably high mortality. The descriptive demographics and injury characteristics of pedestrian road crash victims presenting to a tertiary medical center in southwestern Nigeria are presented in order to provide baseline epidemiology as a first step in determining areas of potential mitigation for care of unintentional injuries.
Methods: Consecutive pedestrian road traffic crash patients treated in the Accident and Emergency Department of a tertiary hospital were prospectively reviewed from March 2007 to February 2008 to determine baseline demographics and clinical outcomes.

Arthroscopic refixation of the glenoid labrum has become a standard treatment of type II SLAP lesions although postoperative results are not uniformly good due to factors which are yet unclear. We present the case of an active overhead athlete with an intraarticular posterosuperior impingement syndrome arising from a suture granuloma formation complicating the postoperative course after arthroscopic SLAP repair. The symptoms resolved completely following revision arthroscopy during which the granuloma and the permanent sutures were removed.

We present an arthroscopically assisted stabilization using a gracilis tendon transclavicular-transcoracoid loop technique augmented with a Tight-Rope (Arthrex, Naples, FL, USA).

Background: Femoral shaft fractures are common presentation in our trauma units. It is obvious that all these fractures cannot be treated conservatively due to the pressure on trauma beds and thus a suitable method of internal fixation that is feasible in the environment has had to be adopted.
Objective: This study is a report of our experience with plate fixation of femoral shaft fracture in our environment.

Reports concerning the surgical treatment of calcifying tendinits of the subscapularis tendon are rare. We present the case of a symptomatic calcifying tendonitis involving the subscapularis and supraspinatus tendons. The patient was treated with an arthroscopic removal of the calcific deposits.
