Excess Opioid Medication and Variation in Prescribing Patterns Following Common Breast Plastic Surgeries.

Excess opioid prescribing has societal impacts including addiction, dependence, and misuse. This study aims to investigate prescribing patterns and self-reported patient experiences with opioid use, pain control, and disposal of unused medication following common breast surgeries. A total of 46 patients undergoing 5 breast procedures were identified during a predefined 14-week period.

The impact of WALANT anesthesia and office-based settings on patient satisfaction after carpal tunnel release: A patient reported outcome study.

Hypothesis: Wide awake local anesthesia with no tourniquet (WALANT) and office-based procedures are used in hand surgery. There are limited literature data on patient satisfaction when comparing methods of anesthesia and location of surgery.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective single-surgeon study with patient reported satisfaction in three groups.

Trigeminal neuropathy associated with an enlarging arachnoid cyst in Meckel's cave: case report, management strategy and review of the literature.

We describe a rare case and novel management strategy of painful trigeminal neuropathy caused by an arachnoid cyst confined to Meckel's cave. A 57-year-old female presented with several years of progressive trigeminal pain and signs of trigeminal deafferentation, including sensory loss, corneal anesthesia and mastication muscle atrophy. Medical treatment with carbamazepine provided partial and temporary pain control.

Chronic hand infections.

Chronic infections of the hand are uncommon, and a high index of suspension is required for their early diagnosis. These can be grouped based on the microorganism. Mycobacterial infections include tuberculosis, atypical mycobacterial infections, and leprosy.
