The Use of Long-Term Monthly Basiliximab Infusions as Rescue Maintenance Immunosuppression in Pancreas Transplant Recipients.

This single-center retrospective study was designed to evaluate the use of basiliximab as an alternative rescue maintenance immunosuppression in situations where standard maintenance immunosuppression is not tolerated after a pancreas transplant. All pancreas transplants performed between January 11, 2006, and January 6, 2022, were reviewed. All recipients received rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG) induction with tacrolimus + sirolimus maintenance for simultaneous pancreas and kidney (SPK) and additional low-dose mycophenolic acid for pancreas transplant alone (PTA).

We investigated the role of A and A adenosine receptors (AR) in regulating oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) and myelinating oligodendrocyte (OL) in the demyelinated hippocampus using the cuprizone model of MS. Spatial learning and memory were assessed in wild type C57BL/6 mice (WT) or C57BL/6 mice with global deletion of A (AAR-/-) or A AR (AAR-/-) fed standard or cuprizone diet (CD) for four weeks.

Methods: Twenty-five male Wistar rats were grouped as follows: Control (Group A), Group B (L-NAME 40 mg/kg), Group C (100 mg/kg extract plus 40 mg/kg L-NAME), Group D (200 mg/kg extract plus 40 mg/kg L-NAME) and Group E (10 mg/kg of Lisinopril plus 40 mg/kg L-NAME).

Studies on integrating biochar with potassium (K) fertilizer is not common. Hence, experiments were conducted in 2020 and 2021 to evaluate the sole and combined applications of biochar and K fertilizer on soil properties and performance of sweet potato. It was hypothesized that the effects of combined applications of biochar and K fertilizer on the growth, and yield of sweet potato will be more than their individual applications.

What Happened and Why: Responding to Racism, Discrimination, and Microaggressions in the Clinical Learning Environment.

Introduction: Within clinical learning environments, medical students are uniquely faced with power differentials that make acts of racism, discrimination, and microaggressions (RDM) challenging to address. Experiences of microaggressions and mistreatment are correlated with higher rates of positive depression screening and lower satisfaction with medical training. We developed a curriculum for medical students beginning clerkship rotations to promote the recognition of and response to RDM.

Dental disorders, which are deviations of dental tissues origins, are derived from any or all of the dental tissues; enamel, dentin or cementum, and include dental abnormalities and diseases. These disorders can be influenced by genetic or environmental factors, or an interplay of both factors.

Vasopressin for Post-kidney Transplant Hypotension.

Introduction: Hypotension after deceased donor kidney transplant (DDKT) is a risk factor for delayed graft function (DGF) and poor graft survival (GS). We hypothesize that vasopressin use in hypotensive DDKT recipients (DDKTRs) to increase blood pressure (BP) reduces DGF rates and is safe without increasing mortality.

Methods: Group with vasopressin "study group" ( 45) was defined as DDKTRs between 2012 and 2017 who required vasopressin for hypotension systolic BP (SBP) <120 mm Hg or diastolic BP (DBP) <60 mm Hg.

Nondirected Living Kidney Donation and Recipient Outcomes in the United States: A 20-Year Review.

Introduction: Nondirected donation (NDD) of the kidneys is a growing practice where donors who do not have any genetic or emotional relationship are selected to donate to a wide variety of recipients with a range of selection criteria and decisions which are left up to individual transplant centers.

Methods: We review all adult living kidney donor-recipient (DR) pairs and outcomes from NDDs who were recorded in United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) database as code 10 (anonymous) from October 1997 to September 2017 for demographics and outcomes.

Results: A total of 2174 DR pairs were identified.

This was a descriptive cross-sectional study using self-administered questionnaires.

Introduction: A critical question facing transplant programs is whether, when, and how to safely accept living kidney donors (LKDs) who have recovered from COVID-19 infection. The purpose of the study is to understand current practices related to accepting these LKDs.

The straw-coloured fruit bats (Eidolon helvum) are the most widely distributed megachiropteran species in Africa. Studies have shown that they migrate, and are likely exposed to environmental pollutants across population. This study was designed to investigate genotoxicity via the bone marrow micronucleus assay and haematological alterations of Eidolon helvum in the tropics.
