Purpose: To uncover the underpinnings of acquired resistance (AR) to immunotherapy (IO), we determined whether distinctive clinico-pathological, radiomic and peripheral blood (PB) immune-inflammatory features reflect oligo- and systemic (sys)-AR in advanced NSCLC patients undergoing immune checkpoints inhibitors.

Experimental Design: On 105 consecutive IO-treated advanced NSCLC, PB immunophenotypes, cytokines and CT-derived radiomic features (RFs), extracted from primary and merged metastatic lesions, were prospectively collected at baseline (T0) and first disease assessment (T1, 9-12 weeks), and their delta (Δ) variation [(T1-T0)/T0] computed. AR, defined as progression after initial response (complete/partial) or stable disease ≥ 6 months, was subdivided according to the number of new and/or progressive lesions in oligoAR (≤3) and sysAR (>3).

Purpose: The treatment of renal tumors is dictated by the results acquired from renal imaging, which play a crucial role in determining the appropriate strategy and surgical plan. Radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, and cryoablation are established percutaneous thermal ablation procedures that have widespread recognition. The objective of this scholarly article is to present a comprehensive summary of the application of the primary thermal protection strategies of the structures adjacent to renal tumors, in particular the effectiveness in terms of safety of hydrodissection and pyeloperfusion, in the context of percutaneous thermal ablation for renal tumors.

Background: to test the association with overall survival (OS) of low attenuation areas (LAAs) quantified by staging computed tomography (CT) of patients who underwent radical surgery for nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: patients who underwent radical surgery for NSCLC at our institution between 1 January 2017 and 30 November 2021 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients who performed staging or follow-up CTs in other institutions, who received lung radiotherapy or chemotherapy, and who underwent previous lung surgery were excluded.

A 56-year-old woman presented to the emergency to be department with diarrhea, asthenia, cough, and dysgeusia. The patient had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and was found infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). On physical examination, a small basal cell carcinoma (BCC) lesion was identified on her scalp; however, following the administration of noninvasive ventilation, the appearance of both macroscopic and microscopic BCC worsened dramatically.

Introduction: Varicella zoster virus (VZV) reactivation has been reported following vaccination for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), but the real extent remains unknown.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review to summarize evidence of VZV reactivation or infection following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. Episodes after coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) were also identified.

Skin nodular lesion are really frequent, but rapidly growing ones needs to be quickly removed since they can hide really aggressive skin tumor. Among malignant lesion Merkel cell carcinoma arise. It is a rare neuroendocrine skin tumor highly aggressive, not easy to diagnose at first stage, since at first diagnosis it is already widespreading all over the body.

Emerging literature evidence shows that the manifestations of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, encompass alterations of the pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and neurological system. Moreover, hematologic and dermatologic manifestations have been documented. The aim of this review is to summarize the dermatologic manifestations of COVID-19 involving the hair and nails in a narrative way.

The majority of fulleride superconductors with unusually high transition-temperature to kinetic-energy ratios have a face-centred-cubic (FCC) structure. We demonstrate that, within extended Hubbard models with strong Coulomb repulsion, paired fermions in FCC lattices have qualitatively different properties than pairs in other three-dimensional cubic lattices. Our results show that strongly bound, light, and small pairs can be generated in FCC lattices across a wide range of the parameter space.

The dermatologic lesions of the external ear are quite protean and they encompass pre-malignant, malignant and inflammatory entities. The ear is endowed with functional and cosmetic importance and it is part of the "H-zone", which is the area of the head that generally presents tumors that can be considered high risk regardless of their size. As a matter of fact, skin malignancies of the ear tend to have a less benign course compared to the ones located on other areas of the body and complete excision has proven to be challenging.

Article Synopsis
  • * Post-mortem examinations of ten COVID-19 patients revealed significant neurological damage, characterized by vascular changes, brain inflammation, and hypoxic injury to neurons.
  • * The study highlights the importance of microvascular injury in understanding the neurological effects of COVID-19, suggesting a need for more comprehensive data from multiple institutions for better insights.
