A Gram-stain-negative, obligately aerobic, non-motile, non-sporulating, rod-shaped bacterium, designated TZCO2T, was isolated from the soil of an irrigated coffee plantation in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, indicated that the isolate is affiliated with the genus Taibaiella in the family Chitinophagaceae.
