Prostate cancer is a global health issue that requires new diagnostic methods to provide accurate and precise visualization of prostate tissue on the micro-scale. Such methods have the potential to improve nerve-sparing surgery and to provide image guidance during prostate biopsy. In this feasibility study, we assess the potential of three-dimensional wide-field optical coherence tomography (OCT), covering a volumetric imaging field-of-view up to 46 × 46 × 1 mm, to visualize micro-architecture in 18 freshly excised human prostate specimens.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most prevalent subtype of renal cancer, accounting for approximately 80% of all renal cell cancers. Due to its exceptional inter- and intratumor heterogeneity, it is highly resistant to conventional systemic therapies. Targeting the evasion of cell death, one of cancer's hallmarks, is currently emerging as an alternative strategy for ccRCC.

Limited evidence exists regarding the 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18]-fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) avidity of Warthin tumors, the second most common benign parotid gland tumor. This study aims to clarify this aspect by analyzing patients who underwent FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and quantifying tumor standardized uptake values (SUV). Medical records of 29 patients with fine needle aspiration (FNA)-confirmed Warthin tumors who underwent FDG-PET/CT near the diagnosis of Warthin tumor were reviewed.

Objectives: Cytology reports of metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) are rare and limited to short series and simple case reports. To adapt cytology diagnostic criteria to the most recent fifth edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Breast Tumours from 2019, we have reviewed our series from the files of the Institut Curie.

Methods: A cohort of 66 female patients investigated by cytology with corresponding histologic diagnosis of MBC was identified.

Anti-programmed cell death ligand 1 (anti-PD-L1)  immunotherapy is an increasingly crucial in cancer treatment. To date, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved four PD-L1 immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining protocols, commercially available in the form of "kits", facilitating testing for PD-L1 expression. These kits comprise four PD-L1 antibodies on two separate IHC platforms, each utilizing distinct, non-interchangeable scoring systems.

PD-L1 expression is known to predict the benefits of immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). We examined whether the PD-L1 expression evaluated in biopsy specimens accurately reflects its expression in the whole tumor. Immunohistochemistry was performed on 81 biopsy and resection specimens from patients with TNBC to determine their PD-L1 status.

Background/aim: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) continues to pose a challenge due to our limited understanding of its underlying pathophysiology. Aconitase 2 (ACO2) is a mitochondrial Fe-S cluster enzyme that catalyzes the stereospecific isomerization of citrate to isocitrate in the second step of the Krebs cycle. We investigated the relationship between ACO2 protein expression and the clinical course of RCC.

Introduction: Unresectable renal cell carcinoma continues to be a great challenge due to our limited understanding of its underlying pathophysiology. We explored the relationship between KIF11 protein expression and the clinical courses of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) using a tissue microarray.

Material And Methods: The tissue microarray contained specimens derived from 90 patients, cancer and matched adjacent non-cancerous tissue (2 cores per case), followed up for 7 years.

The inflammatory process plays a significant role in the development of colon cancer (CRC). Intestinal cytokine networks are critical mediators of tissue homeostasis and inflammation but also impact carcinogenesis at all stages of the disease. Recent studies suggest that inflammation is of greater importance in the serrated pathway than in the adenoma-carcinoma pathway.

Tumor cells have the ability to induce platelet activation and aggregation. This has been documented to be involved in tumor progression in several types of cancers, such as lung, colon, breast, pancreatic, ovarian, and brain. During the process, platelets protect circulating tumor cells from the deleterious effects of shear forces, shield tumor cells from the immune system, and provide growth factors, facilitating metastatic spread and tumor growth at the original site as well as at the site of metastasis.

This study aimed to explore the prognostic value of SATB1, SMAD3, and TLR2 expression in non-small-cell lung carcinoma patients with clinical stages I-II. To investigate, we evaluated immunohistochemical staining to each of these markers using tissue sections from 69 patients from our cohort and gene expression data for The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort. We found that, in our cohort, high expression levels of nuclear SATB1 and SMAD3 were independent prognostic markers for better overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients.

The emergence of clinical resistance to currently available systemic therapies forces us to rethink our approach to clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). The ability to influence ccRCC evolution by inhibiting processes that propel it or manipulating its course may be an adequate strategy. There are seven deterministic evolutionary trajectories of ccRCC, which correlate with clinical phenotypes.

What is the leading molecular mechanism that causes broad resistance to systemic therapies remains a key question in renal cancer related research. We explored associations of TRIP13 expression with the clinical course using the tissue microarray (TMA). The TMA contained specimens from 87 patients diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Despite advances in our understanding of the biology of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC) and renal oncocytoma (RO), the differential diagnosis among these tumors remains one of the most problematic in renal pathology. Today, CK7 is the most recommended marker to distinguish these entities, however it appears insufficiently accurate by itself. This study aimed to find an easily accessible IHC stain that might out-compete CK7 in this field.

Dizygotic twins share the same type of genetic relationship as non-twin siblings. Whereas monozygotic (MZ) twins are considered to have identical genetic material, they still differ. There is a number of reasons for early MZ twin discordance, including differences in the in utero environment, stochasticity, genetic mosaicism, and epigenetic factors.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, behind only lung cancer. In some cases, the proper diagnosis of prostatic neoplasia can be challenging, and the differential diagnosis includes atypical nonmalignant lesions such as atrophy, atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH), and atypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP). Atrophy and AAH have a benign clinical outcome, and if detected on needle biopsy or transurethral resection of the prostate, clinical follow-up seems appropriate.
