Purpose: To compare Medicaid and Medicare rates for the 20 most commonly billed orthopaedic sports medicine procedures.
Methods: Medicaid reimbursement rates were obtained from state-specific fee schedules. Medicare rates were collected from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Physician Fee Schedule, along with relative value units for each procedure.
➤ The COVID-19 pandemic created a persistent surgical backlog in elective orthopedic surgeries. ➤ Artificial intelligence (AI) uses computer algorithms to solve problems and has potential as a powerful tool in health care. ➤ AI can help improve current and future orthopedic backlogs through enhancing surgical schedules, optimizing preoperative planning, and predicting postsurgical outcomes.

We sought to determine MCD reimbursement rates using state MCD data for nine arthroplasty procedure codes and compare them to MCR rates.
Methods: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services physician fee schedule was used to collect MCR reimbursement rates, and state MCD fee schedules were accessed to collect MCD rates for nine procedures encompassing primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgery.
Background: Apelin is an endogenous prepropeptide that regulates cardiac homeostasis and various physiological processes. Intravenous injection has been shown to improve cardiac contractility in patients with heart failure. However, its short half-life prevents studying its impact on left ventricular remodeling in the long term.

The authors anticipate significant variability between states and hypothesize that Medicaid payment will be significantly less than Medicare payment.
Methods: The top 20 most common orthopaedic trauma surgery procedural codes were identified from a previous analysis performed by Haglin et al.
In silico clinical trials (ISCT) can contribute to demonstrating a device's performance via credible computational models applied on virtual cohorts. Our purpose was to establish the credibility of a model for assessing the risk of humeral stem loosening in total shoulder arthroplasty, based on a twofold validation scheme involving both benchtop and clinical validation activities, for ISCT applications. A finite element model computing bone-implant micromotion (benchtop model) was quantitatively compared to a bone foam micromotion test (benchtop comparator) to ensure that the physics of the system was captured correctly.

Limited sample size often prevents these studies from capturing the full spectrum of patient variability and real-life implant use. The device industry is accustomed to simulating benchtop tests with numerical methods and recent developments now enable virtual "in silico clinical trials" (ISCT).

It should be part of the differential diagnosis for any normocytic or macrocytic anemia. Hemolysis may occur intravascularly, extravascularly in the reticuloendothelial system, or both.

Background: Adequate primary stability is essential for the long term success of uncemented stemless shoulder implants. The goal of this study was to evaluate the micromotion of a stemless humeral implant during various upper limb activities.
Methods: A finite element model was validated by reproducing experimental primary stability testing.
Background: Adults over the age of 65 are involved in more motor vehicle collisions per mile driven than those under 65.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of sedating medication use among older drivers, and their recall of advice given by medical professionals about potential for these medications to cause driving impairment.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of older adults (age ≥ 65) who had driven in the last 30 days, presenting at an urban emergency department.
Objectives: The incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) attributed to central venous catheters (CVCs) inserted in the emergency department (ED) is not widely reported. The goal was to report the incidence of ED CLABSI. Secondary goals included determining the effect of a CVC bundle introduced by the hospital infection prevention department to decrease CLABSI during the surveillance period.

We conducted a pilot investigation to determine the prevalence of previous and current prescription opioid use among older adults visiting the Rhode Island Hospital Emergency Department and their need for opioid misuse interventions. Among 88 randomly selected older adults (≥ 65 years of age) presenting to the ED with sub-critical illness or injury, 19% (95% CI: 11-27%) were current opioid users and 6% (95% CI: 4-8%) would require an intervention for prescription opioid misuse.

The low resolution data obtained establish constraints for the relative arrangements of the three component domains in both forms. Domain organization within the small angle x-ray envelopes was determined by combining available atomic resolution data for individual domains with results from cross-linking coupled with mass spectrometry.
