Directional Stimulus-Evoked Pallidal Electrophysiology in Primary Dystonia.

Background: Deep brain stimulation for dystonia improves motor symptoms but variable and delayed responses challenge patient selection, targeting, and device programming.

Case Report: Here we studied intracranial electrophysiology in a patient with primary dystonia and observed evoked resonant neural activity (ERNA) in the globus pallidus interna. These local stimulus-evoked potentials displayed refractory periods and paired-pulse facilitation at clinically relevant interstimulus intervals.

Introduction: Rheumatic musculoskeletal disorders are a group of conditions affecting one or multiple joints of the body resulting in pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of joint functions. Being a chronic condition that causes so much morbidity can precipitate psychological disorders, including depression. The comorbidity of depression with rheumatic disorder leads to increased morbidity, disability, and mortality.

Psychometric validity of the distress thermometer and problem check list in ART-naïve HIV infected patients in Northern Nigeria.

Background: HIV diagnosis comes with a lot of worry and distress. Ability to objectively estimate this distress by non-psychiatrist will enhance early detection of psychological distress for intervention.

Objectives: To investigate the validity of the Distress Thermometer (DT) and its problem checklist in achieving early detection of mental distress among ART-naïve HIV infected patient.

Design of a study to determine the impact of insecticide resistance on malaria vector control: a multi-country investigation.

Background: Progress in reducing the malaria disease burden through the substantial scale up of insecticide-based vector control in recent years could be reversed by the widespread emergence of insecticide resistance. The impact of insecticide resistance on the protective effectiveness of insecticide-treated nets (ITN) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) is not known. A multi-country study was undertaken in Sudan, Kenya, India, Cameroon and Benin to quantify the potential loss of epidemiological effectiveness of ITNs and IRS due to decreased susceptibility of malaria vectors to insecticides.
