Adverse events (AEs) experienced by children and adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) on ventricular assist devices (VADs) are sometimes unique to these populations. The Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) and the Academic Research Consortium (ARC) aimed to harmonize definitions of pediatric and CHD AEs for use in clinical trials, registries, and regulatory evaluation. Data from the ACTION registry and adjudication committee were used to adapt general mechanical circulatory support ARC definitions.

In order to better understand the evolution of human language, it is therefore important to explore how widely the ability for displaced reference is shared in animal kingdom. In this study, we explored whether chimpanzees are capable of uzsing video as a displaced reference in a spatiotemporally distant task.

The data were collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. We find no evidence for signal and set upper limits on branching fractions at the 90% confidence level in the range (3.

This process is a suppressed charmless decay into two vector mesons and can exhibit interesting polarization and CP violation. The decay is observed for the first time with a significance of 7.

The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating B^{-} decay and Ξ_{c}^{0}-Ξ[over ¯]_{c}^{0} oscillations which follow the standard model decay B^{-}→Ξ_{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]_{c}^{-}. We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and standard model branching fractions B(B^{-}→Ξ[over ¯]_{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]_{c}^{-})/B(B^{-}→Ξ_{c}^{0}Λ[over ¯]_{c}^{-}) to be <2.

Although morbidities are considerable, our understanding of outcome determinants is limited. We evaluated associations between patient and perioperative factors with outcomes.

We tested whether humans' closest living relatives-chimpanzees-have the same ability using touchscreen tasks, focusing on the major parts: heads, torsos, arms, and legs. Six chimpanzees were trained to perform a body part matching-to-sample task using sets of pictures of chimpanzee bodies, where in each trial, the sample and choice pictures were the same.

We select events that have one fully reconstructed B meson and a charged lepton candidate from 189 fb^{-1} of electron-positron collision data collected with the Belle II detector. We find R(X_{τ/ℓ})=0.

We sought to identify important variables affecting the incidence of stroke in pediatric VADs.
Methods: Between 2012 and 2022, 1463 devices in 1219 patients were reported to Pedimacs from 40 centers in patients aged <19 years at their first VAD implantation.

Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are excellent therapies for advanced heart failure patients either bridged to transplant or for lifetime use. LVADs also allow for reverse remodeling of the failing heart that is often associated with functional improvement. Indeed, growing enthusiasm exists to better understand this population of patients, whereby the LVAD is used as an adjunct to mediate myocardial recovery.

Methods: We reviewed 22 patients with aforementioned anatomy and PA centralization from 1995 to 2023, excluding those with biventricular repair.
Results: Median age at centralization was 9 days (minimum-maximum, 0 days-2 years).
Background: There is no FDA-approved left ventricular assist device (LVAD) for smaller children permitting routine hospital discharge. Smaller children supported with LVADs typically remain hospitalized for months awaiting heart transplant-a major burden for families and a challenge for hospitals. We describe the initial outcomes of the Jarvik 2015, a miniaturized implantable continuous flow LVAD, in the NHLBI-funded Pumps for Kids, Infants, and Neonates (PumpKIN) study, for bridge-to-heart transplant.

The use of touch panels in matching-to-sample tasks has contributed to cognitive studies on terrestrial animals; however, there has been a difficulty in using these devices underwater, which is one of the factors that has slowed the progress of visual studies on underwater animals. We sought to determine the prevalence of L-cor in HLHS fetuses and hypothesized that it is associated with increased mortality.
Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study included all HLHS fetuses from January 2010-December 2020.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a relatively rare but debilitating diagnosis in the pediatric population and patients with end-stage HCM require heart transplantation. In this study, we performed single-nucleus RNA sequencing on pediatric HCM and control myocardium. We identified distinct underling cellular processes in pediatric, end-stage HCM in cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and myeloid cells, compared to controls.

Methods: We used single-nucleus RNA sequencing to investigate the inflammatory myocardial microenvironment in human pediatric cardiac allografts at different stages after transplantation. We distinguished donor- from recipient-derived cells using naturally occurring genetic variants embedded in single-nucleus RNA sequencing data.
Background: Despite growing cardiogenic shock (CS) research in adults, the epidemiology, clinical features, and outcomes of children with CS are lacking.
Objectives: This study sought to describe the epidemiology, clinical presentation, hospital course, risk factors, and outcomes of CS among children hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).
Methods: We examined consecutive ADHF hospitalizations (<21 years of age) from a large single-center retrospective cohort.
• PA/VSD has always been associated with either a PDA or MAPCAS. • PA/VSD can exist in the absence of a PDA or MAPCAS via a small APW. • PA/VSD with a small APW can be managed successfully with a Blalock-Taussig shunt.

We report on a search for a heavy Majorana neutrino in the decays τ^{-}→π^{-}ν_{h}, ν_{h}→π^{±}ℓ^{∓}, ℓ=e, μ. The results are obtained using the full data sample of 988 fb^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e^{+}e^{-} collider, which contains 912×10^{6} ττ pairs. We observe no significant signal and set 95% CL upper limits on the couplings of the heavy right-handed neutrinos to the conventional standard model left-handed neutrinos in the mass range 0.
