The limited availability of therapeutic options for patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) contributes to the high rate of metastatic recurrence and poor prognosis. Ferroptosis is a type of cell death caused by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and counteracted by the antioxidant activity of the selenoprotein GPX4. Here, we show that TNBC cells secrete an anti-ferroptotic factor in the extracellular environment when cultured at high cell densities but are primed to ferroptosis when forming colonies at low density.

In the current study, participants listened to three self-selected disliked musical pieces which evoked highly unpleasant feelings. As a contrast, three musical pieces were individually selected for each participant based on neutral liking ratings they provided to other participants' disliked music.

This research shows a numerical model based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and a methodology for its validation allowing to know the evolution of particles in open urban environments. In this case, the model represents an area of Gijón (Asturias), specifically chosen as it serves to highlight a location at which the daily limit values of PM set by the regulations are most frequently exceeded.

Incisional hernia (IH) is a late manifestation of the failure of abdominal wall closure and represents frequent complication of any abdominal incision: IHs can cause pain and discomfort to the patients but also clinical serious sequelae like bowel obstruction, incarceration, strangulation, and necessity of reoperation. Previous guidelines and indications in the literature consider elective settings and evidence about laparotomy closure in emergency settings is lacking.

The transcription factor C/EBPβ-LIP stimulates glycolysis and mitochondrial respiration in cancer cells. We initially observed that high expression of C/EBPβ-LIP makes cells vulnerable to treatment with the glycolysis inhibitor 2-deoxyglucose.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAir pollution has become a major concern in industrial or highly populated areas. Although legislation has been enacted to limit pollution levels, air quality monitoring still needs to be carried out by stations which are located at fixed points unable to provide the spatial evolution of pollutants. This research, focused on the city of Gijón (Asturias), includes a Computational Fluid Dynamics model capable of simulating the dispersion of pollutants in a large urban environment (12x18 km[Formula: see text]).

Introduction And Importance: This is a first reported case of isolated retroperitoneal mesothelioma. Most patients present with symptoms of abdominal pain, distension and weight loss. However, a minority of cases are asymptomatic and are found incidentally on imaging.

Here, we show that mammalian GS uses glutamate and methylamine to produce a methylated glutamine analog, N-methylglutamine. Untargeted metabolomics revealed that liver-specific GS deletion and its pharmacological inhibition in mice suppress hepatic and circulating levels of N-methylglutamine.

We examined our experience with the surgical management of appendicitis during pregnancy, particularly the risk of foetal loss during the 1st and 2nd trimester and performed a meta-analysis of the available literature.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of all patients who had an appendicectomy during pregnancy (January 2010 to December 2019) and a meta-analysis comparing foetal death in open appendicectomy versus laparoscopic appendicectomy during the 1st and 2nd trimester.
Background And Objectives: With a few exceptions, musical taste has been researched via likes or preferences of certain types of music. The present study focuses on disliked music and takes a broad approach to cover explanatory strategies related to personal dislikes.
Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted with 21 participants in five age groups.
The transcription factor C/EBPβ is a master regulator of mammary gland development and tissue remodelling during lactation. The CEBPB-mRNA is translated into three distinct protein isoforms named C/EBPβ-LAP1, -LAP2 and -LIP that are functionally different. The smaller isoform LIP lacks the N-terminal transactivation domains and is considered to act as an inhibitor of the transactivating LAP1/2 isoforms by competitive binding for the same DNA recognition sequences.

Screening and full-scale competition experiments were performed using recently developed GlyT1 and GlyT2 MS Binding Assays. That way for both targets, GlyT1 and GlyT2, ligands were identified, which exhibited affinities (pK values) in the low micromolar to sub-micromolar range.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis including all patients who underwent a pancreatiocoduodenectomy between 2008 and 2018 at a single tertiary institution in Melbourne, Australia, to analyse the incidence, potential risk factors, treatment and outcomes of cut surface PPH.
This study describes the first binding assay for glycine transporter 2 (GlyT2) following the concept of MS Binding Assays. The selective GlyT2 inhibitor Org25543 was employed as a reporter ligand and it was quantified with a highly sensitive and rapid LC-ESI-MS/MS method. Binding of Org25543 at GlyT2 was characterized in kinetic and saturation experiments with an off-rate of 7.

The optimal timing and technique of cholecystectomy in severe/necrotizing pancreatitis is unclear. This study aims to determine the role of laparoscopic cholecystectomy after severe/necrotizing pancreatitis in the context of MIP.

The patient underwent an emergency laparotomy and was found to have chylous ascites throughout the abdomen, and the extravasation of chyle into the mesentery giving an appearance of a white mesentery. During this case, we will present all of the findings and discuss the unusual underlying pathology.

Their early diagnosis requires ultrasensitive tools enabling the detection of minor structural and functional alterations in small arteries. Such analyses have been traditionally performed with video imaging-based myographs, which helped to investigate the pathophysiology of the microvessels.

High LIP expression has been associated with human cancer and increased cancer incidence in mice. However, how LIP contributes to cellular transformation is poorly understood.
