A recurrent leiomyosarcoma of the buccal mucosa: An immunohistochemistry study and literature review.

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that affects smooth muscle tissue. Leiomyosarcomas are exceedingly rare in the oral cavity, particularly in the buccal mucosa. The diagnosis is challenging due to non-specific clinical features and significant overlap of morphological findings with several spindle cell tumors.

[Building a "Smiling Brazil"? Implementation of the Brazilian National Oral Health Policy in a health region in the State of São Paulo].

This paper is a case study on the implementation of the Brazilian National Oral Health Policy (PNSB), known as "Smiling Brazil", in the cities of the Regional Health Department of Araraquara (DRS III) in São Paulo State. A structured questionnaire was given to the municipal oral health coordinators, an interview with oral health care professionals and managers was conducted, and the official data provided by the Brazilian Ministry of Health were coded to assess the policy's scope: (i) expansion and qualification of actions; (ii) work conditions; (iii) care; (iv) access; and (v) planning and management. The quantitative and qualitative analyses were linked by methods triangulation.

Oral health care after the National Policy on Oral Health - "Smiling Brazil": a case study.

In 2004, the National Oral Health Policy (PNSB) - Smiling Brazil was launched. Its guidelines seek to qualify Primary Health Care, ensure comprehensive actions, work on the basis of health surveillance, plan actions in accordance with the epidemiology and information available on the territory, financing and scheduling the research agenda so that the work can be based on scientific evidence. The purpose of this case study was to investigate the perspectives of health care professionals and managers on oral health care after launching the PNSB.

Assessment of the LED phototherapy on femoral bone defects of ovariectomized rats: a Raman spectral study.

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by the reduction of bone mineral density. LED wavelengths seem to have similar photo-stimulating effects to laser light. The aim of this study was to assess the Raman shifts: ∼ 960 (phosphate hydroxyapatite), ∼ 1,070 (carbonate hydroxyapatite), and ∼ 1,454 cm (-1) (lipids and proteins) on bone defects of ovariectomized rats treated or not with LED phototherapy (LED-PT).

The aim of the present study was to assess, by light microscopy and histomorphometry, the repair of surgical fractures fixed with internal rigid fixation (IRF) treated or not with IR laser (λ780 nm, 50 mW, 4 × 4 J/cm(2) = 16 J/cm(2), ϕ = 0.5 cm(2), CW) associated or not to the use of hydroxyapatite and guided bone regeneration. Surgical tibial fractures were created under general anesthesia on 15 rabbits that were divided into 5 groups, maintained on individual cages, at day/night cycle, fed with solid laboratory pelted diet, and had water ad libidum.

Removal of oral lichen planus by CO2 laser.

The aim of this case report is to present a histologically diagnosed oral lichen planus excised by the CO2 laser. Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disease of unknown etiology. Different treatments have been used to manage this condition.

Light microscopic description of the effects of laser phototherapy on bone defects grafted with mineral trioxide aggregate, bone morphogenetic proteins, and guided bone regeneration in a rodent model.

We carried out a histological analysis on bone defects grafted with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) treated or not with laser, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), and guided bone regeneration (GBR). Benefits of the use of MTA, laser, BMPs, and GBR on bone repair are well known, but there is no report on their association with laser light. [Perspectives of physical therapy participation in the Family Health Program for elderly care].

The premise of this paper was to introduce the concept of elderly physical therapy care in the Family Health Program. Inspired by the impact attributable to the socio-demographic changes, the increase of an elderly population and for the consolidation of a national health policy inspired by civil rights principles, the authors present an initiative for physical therapy practice aimed at the elderly. The successful integration of physical therapy in the Family Health Program conducted in the city of São Carlos, São Paulo State, has shown that the idea is likely to achieve great results and qualified participation.

Surgical treatment of oral lymphangiomas with CO₂ laser: report of two uncommon cases.

This paper reports the treatment of oral lymphangiomas with carbon dioxide CO₂ Laser. Lymphangiomas are rare congenital lymphatic malformations. These lesions are most frequently diagnosed during childhood, are most commonly located in the head and neck region, and are extremely rare in the oral cavity.

A feasible procedure in dental practice: the treatment of oral dysplastic hyperkeratotic lesions of the oral cavity with the CO2 laser.

Objectives: The aim of this work is to report some cases of surgical removal of hyperkeratotic lesions of the oral cavity with the CO(2) laser.

Background: Hyperkeratosis is an abnormal thickening of the stratum corneum caused by increased deposition of keratin, and its histopathologic features show wide variations. These changes are significant because they determine different biologic behavior.

Effects of laser photherapy on bone defects grafted with mineral trioxide aggregate, bone morphogenetic proteins, and guided bone regeneration: a Raman spectroscopic study.

We have used Raman analysis to assess bone healing on different models. Benefits on the isolated or combined use of mineral trioxide aggregate, bone morphogenetic proteins, guided bone regeneration and laser on bone repair have been reported, but not their combination. We studied peaks of hydroxyapatite and CH groups on defects grafted with MTA, treated or not with laser, BMPs, and GBR.
