Purpose: Patients with uncorrected or palliated, complex congenital heart lesions requiring surgery can benefit from laparoscopic techniques, but retroperitoneal insufflation may render them hemodynamically unstable. Alterations in cardiopulmonary physiology during retroperitoneal insufflation have been studied, yet there are no cases detailing this approach in patients with congenital heart lesions. We present a case of a pheochromocytoma removal via retroperitoneoscopy in a patient with a palliated, complex heart lesion.

There are several reports and recommendations regarding body jewelry and its problems posed to anesthesiologists in airway management. We present a case in which the nasal jewelry was lost during surgery and the loss was unnoticed. The loss was confirmed after discussion with the patient's daughter.

From May 1995 through October 2001, 19 infants less than 90 days old underwent surgical correction of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection. In 15 babies with isolated total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, there was one operative death. In 4 with complex anomalies, there were 2 operative deaths.
