Background: Philippines is one of the top ten countries of birth among individuals with tuberculosis in New York City (NYC). The NYC Health Department (HD) screened Filipino-born New Yorkers for latent TB infection (LTBI), but few of those tested positive completed evaluation and treatment.
Objective: To increase the proportion of Filipinos with a positive QuantiFeron-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) complete LTBI evaluation and treatment.
Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension is a serious condition that carries a poor prognosis. While exertional dyspnea is the most common symptom, angina like chest pain, most often due to right ventricle ischemia, may occur at advanced stages. We present a patient with pulmonary hypertension symptomatic for dyspnea and angina in whom computed coronary tomography angiography showed compression of the left main coronary artery by a large pulmonary artery aneurysm.

Methods: Semistructured endline interviews (n = 21) with intervention participants about their perceptions of diet, health, and quality of life. A codebook was applied to verbatim transcripts, and coded data were analyzed using matrices to identify themes.
Significance: The study of sublingual microcirculation offers valuable insights into vascular changes and overcomes some limitations of peripheral microcirculation assessment. Videomicroscopy and pulse oximetry have been used to assess microcirculation, providing insights into organ perfusion beyond macrohemodynamics parameters. However, both techniques have important limitations that preclude their use in clinical practice.

The crystal structure of compound is analyzed using FT-IR, and the chemical shifts of its H- and C NMR spectra are measured and calculated using B3LYP/6-311G(d,p), CAM-B3LYP/6-311G(d,p), and M06-2X/6-311G(d,p) basis sets in the gas phase. Additionally, the optimized geometry of quinoline is compared with experimental X-ray diffraction values.

Gender differences in stigma experiences and social support are underexplored, particularly in the Caribbean. We conducted semi-structured interviews (N = 32) with patients at two HIV clinics in the Dominican Republic.

The present research reports an facile/cost-effective method for the preparation of carbon dots (CDs) and carbon dot silver nanocomposites ( CD@AgNCs) via a hydrothermal treatment of peanut shells. The well-dispersed and spherical CDs with an average diameter of 5-6 nm were obtained and further employed for the preparation of CD@AgNCs.

In this study, we aimed to describe the emergence and local genomic diversity of the SARS-CoV-2 Lambda variant in Argentina, from its initial entry into the country until its detection ceased. Molecular surveillance was conducted on 9356 samples from Argentina between October 2020 and April 2022, and sequencing, phylogenetic, and phylogeographic analyses were performed.

The work compares different energetic materials but focuses especially on an inorganic compound belonging to the Werner complexes, [Co(NH)][NO]. Our results show a large increase in released energy upon heating, which we demonstrate to be related to the confinement of the nano-energetic material either directly by filling of the inner channel of carbon nanotubes or to insertion in the triangular channels between adjacent nanotubes when they form bundles.

Metallic nanoparticles, especially silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have gained a much attention because of their remarkable biological characteristics. Moreover, their medicinal properties can be enhanced by preparing the composites with other materials.

For this purpose, medicinal plants have been gaining tremendous importance in the field of attenuating the various kinds of infectious and non-infectious diseases. Most of the commonly used medicines contains the bioactive components/phytoconstituents that are generally extracted from medicinal plants.

Respiratory therapists work closely with various clinicians including physicians, nurses, and therapy staff in a number of different settings including outpatient clinics, long-term facilities, EDs, and ICUs. RTs are integral in the treatment of patients with several acute and chronic conditions.

Herein, a waste leaf extract from the abundant and renewable plant, Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes, is introduced as a cost-effective and sustainable means to generate gold (Au) and Au@Ag core-shell nanoparticles (NPs).

However, the rapid age-related decline in the adventitious root (AR) formation (herein, meaning induction, initiation, and expression stages) limits its propagation. We analyzed transcriptomic profile variation in leaves and stem bases during AR induction of microcuttings to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in AR formation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA pilot cluster randomized controlled trial involving two HIV clinics in the Dominican Republic assessed preliminary efficacy of an urban garden and peer nutritional counseling intervention. A total of 115 participants (52 intervention, 63 control) with moderate or severe food insecurity and sub-optimal antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence and/or detectable viral load were assessed at baseline, 6- and 12-months. Longitudinal multivariate regression analysis controlling for socio-demographics and accounting for serial cluster correlation found that the intervention: reduced the prevalence of detectable viral load by 20 percentage points at 12 months; reduced any missed clinic appointments by 34 and 16 percentage points at 6 and 12 months; increased the probability of "perfect" ART adherence by 24 and 20 percentage points at 6 and 12 months; and decreased food insecurity at 6 and 12 months.

However, there is no universally accepted method of measuring this outcome in clinical trials.
Methods: We convened an online consensus workshop to establish a core outcome measure for PD-related peritonitis in clinical trials.
Antibodies play a crucial role in the immune response, in fighting off pathogens as well as helping create strong immunological memory. Antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) occurs when non-neutralising antibodies recognise and bind to a pathogen, but are unable to prevent infection, and is widely known and is reported as occurring in infection caused by several viruses. This narrative review explores the ADE phenomenon, its occurrence in viral infections and evaluates its role in infection by SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The contributions of this paper are as follows: (a) proposing a two-stage model to study whether an event has temporary or permanent effects on the probability of choosing a good within a market basket that traditional decision theory cannot explain and (b) studying the effects of COVID-19 on consumers' decisions in Colombia. Findings suggest that the pandemic has transitory effects on preferences in the short run. If it lasts longer, it could induce to permanent changes.

The aim was to optimise the formulation process by reducing manufacturing time. Two types of LNPs were prepared; non-ionic surfactant vesicles (NISV) and bilosomes (modified NISV incorporating bile salts), with a model antigen (tetanus toxoid, TT) and the immune response induced after mucosal (nasal and oral, respectively) administration was assessed.

Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 variants was performed on a total of 4,851 samples from the capital city and 10 provinces of Argentina, during 51 epidemiological weeks (EWs) that covered the end of the first wave and the ongoing second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country (EW 44/2020 to EW 41/2021). The surveillance strategy was mainly based on Sanger sequencing of a Spike coding region that allows the identification of signature mutations associated with variants.
