Objective: To carry out a preliminary analysis on the Treg lymphocyte counts present in the peripheral blood of allergic asthmatic children from the city of Cartagena, Colombia, compared to healthy controls.
Methods: We compared cytometry counts of ten asthmatic patients (age 7-16 years) and seven healthy controls (6-12 years), recruited in the city of Cartagena. Peripheral blood samples were stained using Cytek's 14-color cFluor Immunoprofiling kit (Cytek cFluor Immunoprofiling Kit 14 Color RUO kit), and analyzed on a Northern Lights™ spectral cytometer (Cytek Biosciences, Fremont, CA, USA), to read 50.
Objective: To quantify the production of Th1/Th2/Th17 cytokines induced by Ascaris lumbricoides antigens in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) using a multiplex technique.
Methods: PBMCs were cultured from individuals with mild A. lumbricoides infection (n = 20) and uninfected individuals (n = 21) and stimulated with A.
Background: Variants in intracellular calcium transport genes have been associated with syndromic immunodeficiencies with a SCID phenotype.
Case Report: Seven-year-old girl of non-consanguineous parents, in Cartagena-Colombia. At two months of age, he presented hematochezia and was diagnosed with alimentary proctolitis without improvement with restriction to milk, wheat and eggs, and malnutrition developed.
Background: cystatin (Al-CPI) prevents the development of allergic airway inflammation and dextran-induced colitis in mice models. It has been suggested that helminth-derived cystatins inhibit cathepsins in dendritic cells (DC), but their immunomodulatory mechanisms are unclear. We aimed to analyze the transcriptional profile of human monocyte-derived DC (moDC) upon stimulation with Al-CPI to elucidate target genes and pathways of parasite immunomodulation.

Methods: Thirty-five participants from a neighborhood of Mexico City were included. A general questionnaire was administered to collect information on sociodemographic factors.
Introduction: Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) represents a complex and often difficult to treat disorder. Pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions are often associated with sub-optimal outcomes, and 40-60% of patients are resistant to first line therapies and thus left with few treatment options. OCD is underpinned by aberrant neurocircuitry within cortical, striatal, and thalamic brain networks.

Yet our understanding of predictors of response and prognostic factors remains rudimentary, and long-term comprehensive follow-ups are lacking. We aim to investigate the efficacy of DBS therapy for OCD patients, and predictors of clinical response.

The main methods used to study fish passage conditions in hydraulic structures involve direct, in situ testing using Sensor Fish technology and live fish. Sensor Fish data helps identify physical stressors and their locations in the fish passage environment, while live fish are assessed for injuries and mortality.

Considering that DBS is applied in severe and complex cases, it is ethically and clinically necessary to consider the patient perspective and personally relevant outcomes. This lived experience investigation of people with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) undergoing DBS aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of DBS-induced effects associated with OCD psychopathology.

Mass cytometry is a technique that allows the multiple analysis of cell surface markers and intracellular proteins by using the spectrum of rare metal isotopes of different atomic masses without channel overlap. Bioinformatic approaches are implemented to combine and reduce the information of more than 60 parameters to define immune cell subpopulations.

The aim was to study the molecular IgE sensitization profile of asthmatic children and young adults in a semi-rural area (Lambaréné) of an equatorial African country (Gabon), to identify the most important allergen molecules associated with allergic asthma in equatorial Africa.
Methods: Fifty-nine asthmatic patients, mainly children and few young adults, were studied by skin prick testing to (Der p), (Der f), cat, dog, cockroach, grass, Alternaria and peanut.
Background And Purpose: In deep brain stimulation (DBS), accurate electrode placement is essential for optimizing patient outcomes. Localizing electrodes enables insight into therapeutic outcomes and development of metrics for use in clinical trials. Methods of defining anatomical targets have been described with varying accuracy and objectivity.

In addition to understanding the immune response and clinical symptoms, allergy diagnosis and management depend strongly on the precise identification of the elicitors of the IgE-mediated allergic reaction. In the past four decades, innovations in bioscience and technology have facilitated the identification and production of well-defined, highly pure molecules for component-resolved diagnosis (CRD), allowing a personalized diagnosis and management of the allergic disease for individual patients.

Currently, the efficacy of DBS is assessed by clinician rated scales of primary symptoms, yet this does not capture the multitude of DBS mediated changes or represent the patient perspective. We aimed to elucidate the patient perspective in psychiatric DBS application by investigating 1) symptomatic, and 2) psychosocial changes, 3) therapeutic expectations and satisfaction, 4) decision-making capacity, and 5) clinical care recommendations from treatment refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) DBS patients.

This study aimed to determine the effects of perinatal BPA exposure on induction of prostate cancer in rats by sequential treatment with N-methyl-N-nitrosamine (MNU) and continuous low dose administration of testosterone. Pregnant Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to BPA administered by subcutaneous Alzet minipumps at doses of 2.

This study surveyed the abundance, type, and source of beached plastic litter at seven beaches along the coast of Nha Trang, Viet Nam. A total of 4754 beached plastic litter items (>2 cm) yielded a mean abundance of 19.
