Objective: Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) was previously associated with larger adenoma size in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), but this topic was not addressed in patients with the mild/asymptomatic form of the disease (aPHPT).

Methods: We retrospectively retrieved from our series of patients affected by PHPT, 96 consecutive subjects with aPHPT in whom 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels had been assayed and compared those results with localizing imaging studies.

Not palpable? Role of radio-guided video-assisted thoracic surgery for nonpalpable solitary pulmonary nodules.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of radio-guided localization for thoracoscopic resection of small nonpalpable lung nodules.

Methods: Nineteen patients with a solitary nodule were enrolled. Inclusion criteria were maximum nodule diameter <15 mm, distance from nearest pleural surface of 20-40 mm, nonsolid or partly solid nodule, and/or posterior location.

Sentinel node mapping for malignant melanoma.

Sixty-seven patients with malignant melanomas were seen in our institute since 1998. We looked for a sentinel node in 26 (38%) patients with lesions thicker than 1 mm, employing a double technique: staining with methylene blue and gamma probe mapping after injection of 99mTc. Forty-six nodes were retrieved, 25% of them containing tumor cells.

Single photon emission computed tomography with 99mTc HM-PAO in the study of focal epilepsy.

We used 99mTc HM-PAO SPECT to study 50 patients with partial epilepsy: 47 interictally and 3 during a seizure. All 3 patients studied during a seizure presented an area of increased tracer uptake. Of those in whom recordings were taken during seizure-free intervals 35 (74%) showed perfusion asymmetries: 27 (57%) with decreased and 8 (17%) with increased uptake.
