Background Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is standard for early breast cancer, yet achieving clear surgical margins remains challenging. Ultrasound (US)-guided BCS has emerged as a potential alternative to wire-guided surgery, but its efficacy compared to traditional methods requires evaluation. Methods A retrospective review of patients undergoing BCS from April 2022 to April 2023 at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto (IPO-Porto) was conducted.

Integrated in a multimodal treatment, CR-HIPEC is associated with increased overall survival. In cases of peritoneal-site only relapse, it may be carried out more than once.

Subsequent imaging studies confirmed a resectable disease without suspicious lymph nodes or distant metastasis, leading to the proposal of surgery.

In the limited number of articles reporting breast involvement, the primary focus concerns this entity's histological and immunohistochemical characteristics. Since hidradenocarcinomas of the breast have the potential to resemble a primary breast carcinoma closely, diagnosis may be challenging.

Introduction: Management of positive sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in breast cancer remains a matter of debate. Our aim was to evaluate the incidence and identify predictive factors of non-sentinel lymph node metastases.
Methods: Retrospective review of all cN0 breast cancer patients treated between January 2013 and December 2017, with positive SLNB that were submitted to ALND.
Introduction: Anastomotic leakage after esophagectomy is associated with high mortality and impaired quality of life.
Aim: The objective of this work was to determine the effectiveness of management of esophageal anastomotic leakage (EAL) after esophagectomy for esophageal and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer.
Methods: Patients submitted to esophagectomy for esophageal and GEJ cancer at a tertiary oncology hospital between 2014 and 2019 ( = 119) were retrospectively reviewed and EAL risk factors and its management outcomes determined.

Introduction: The 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM classification for gastric cancer introduced changes, mainly in stage III, with the incorporation of the pN3 sub-classification in the final staging group. The goal was to compare the 7th and 8th editions to evaluate the discriminative capacity of the new edition.
Methods: This study was a retrospective review of patients with gastric cancer treated with surgery in 2013 and 2014.
Tailgut cysts (TGCs) are rare congenital entities arising from remnants of the embryological postanal primitive gut. Malignancy in TGCs is rare, with the majority being adenocarcinomas and carcinoid tumors. A search of the published literature yielded only 27 cases of adenocarcinoma developing in TGCs.

Ephitelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare type of tumor with vascular and sarcomatous components. There's only another case published of an internal jugular vein (IJV) EHE. A case of a 50 years-old woman with a palpable and pulsatile mass on the left cervical area is reported.

The aim of the Caravaggio study is to assess whether oral apixaban is non-inferior to subcutaneous dalteparin for the treatment of acute proximal deep vein thrombosis and/or pulmonary embolism in patients with cancer. The study is an investigator-initiated, multi-national, prospective, randomized, open-label with blind end-point evaluation (PROBE), non-inferiority clinical trial (NCT03045406).

Our aim was to compare the safety and impact on quality of life (QoL) of ESD and gastrectomy in patients with early gastric neoplasia.
Methods: This prospective study included consecutive patients presenting with early gastric neoplasia in a tertiary center from January 2015 to August 2016.

Introduction: Hibernoma is a very rare benign tumor that arises from vestigial remnants of fetal brown adipose cells and usually manifests as a slowly growing, painless soft-tissue mass. It mainly occurs in adults, in the third and fourth decade of life, slightly more in women and is commonly seen in the subcutaneous regions of the back, neck, thighs and retroperitoneum. It was originally described in 1906 by Merkel, who named it "pseudolipoma".
