Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most relevant and prevalent microvascular complications associated with Diabetes Mellitus. In recent years, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) has been used to mitigate tissue damage caused by hypoxia, thereby attenuating inflammatory processes. This study aimed to explore morphological aspects associated with DN in rats subjected to HBO.

To innovate and refine educational methodologies, it is necessary to employ tools that streamline the organization of classroom objectives. One such tool is Bloom's taxonomy (BT), a two-dimensional framework that guides the selection of verbs in defining educational objectives for curriculum components and lesson plans.

This study constitutes a systematic review and meta-analysis of the impact of beta-blockers on mortality, MI, stroke, and other adverse effects such as hypotension and bradycardia in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
Methods: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to PRISMA 2020 guidelines.
Aims: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a life-threatening condition marked by sudden kidney function loss and azotemia. While its management is limited to supportive care, the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) on AKI remain a subject of conflicting animal research. This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze HBO's effects on renal function biomarkers serum creatinine (SCr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in murine AKI models, also exploring tissue-level nephroprotection.

This method provides a novel route for direct access to ethenesulfonyl-fluorinated quinone structures. We conducted mechanistic studies to gain an in-depth understanding of the elementary steps of the reaction.

Therefore, our aim was to evaluate how colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnosis and management was affected during the first year of pandemics in Portugal.
Methods: This is a Portuguese substudy of the French retrospective multicentric study ETICC ().
Lung cancer ranks as the predominant cause of cancer-related mortalities on a global scale. Despite progress in therapeutic interventions, encompassing surgical procedures, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted therapies and immunotherapy, the overall prognosis remains unfavorable. Imbalances in redox equilibrium and disrupted redox signaling, common traits in tumors, play crucial roles in malignant progression and treatment resistance.

However, there is a lack of communication between infertility specialists and oncologists. This study aimed to evaluate infertility specialists' perceptions and experiences regarding fertility preservation.

This work focuses on developing three-dimensional (3D) nanocomposites through aqueous phase exfoliation, non-covalent functionalization of building blocks with surfactants and polymers, and electrostatic interactions in solution leading to the nanocomposites assembly and organization. By combining molybdenum disulfide (MoS) layers with graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) to form a binary 2D composite (MoS/GnP), and subsequently incorporating multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) to create ternary 3D composites, we explore their potential as catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) critical in fuel cells.

Forty dentin specimens were obtained from the buccal surface of bovine teeth. The specimens were randomly distributed in 4 groups according to dentin substrate: sound or eroded/abraded and dentin biomodification: with 0.

High-risk patients such as those with neutropenia are particularly vulnerable to opportunistic infections, sepsis, and multidrug-resistant infections, and clinical outcomes remain the primary concern. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs should mainly focus on optimizing antibiotic use, decreasing adverse effects, and improving patient outcomes.

Lupin could be used in many food products (bakery products, pasta, beverages, meat products and dairy products) to improve their protein content and possible nutraceutical effects. The main aim of this study is to summarise the recent formulation trends with lupin as an ingredient of new food products based on consumer perception and acceptability.

This systematic review aimed to critically describe and analyze the studies published about the treatments implemented with these victims.
Method: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, studies were identified through search on EBSCO, PubMed, and Web of Science.
In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Passiflora edulis fruit peel aqueous (AFA) extract as an adjuvant to insulin to confer nephroprotection against streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups based on treatment received for 60 days: diabetic (DB), control (CTL), insulin (INS), and insulin + AFA extract (INS + AFA). mRNA and protein expression levels of podocyte (nephrin, podocin, and WT1) and tubular (megalin) proteins were measured in kidney tissue specimens and urine.

Antibiotics and inflammation can perturb iron availability in the gut, which could alter host-microbe interactions. Here, we show that an adaptive allele of iscR, a major regulator of iron homeostasis of Escherichia coli, is under fluctuating selection in the mouse gut.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a worldwide health concern, and projections state that cases will reach 578 million by 2030. Adjuvant therapies that can help the standard treatment and mitigate DM effects are necessary, especially those using nutritional supplements to improve glycemic control. Previous studies suggest creatine supplementation as a possible adjuvant therapy for DM, but they lack the evaluation of potential morphological parameters alterations and tissue injury caused by this compound.

Aims: Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy has been widely used for the adjunctive treatment of diabetic wounds, and is currently known to influence left ventricular (LV) function. However, morphological and molecular repercussions of the HBO in the diabetic myocardium remain to be described. We aimed to investigate whether HBO therapy would mitigate adverse LV remodeling caused by streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes.

We aimed to present the CmyoSize, a Fiji/ImageJ macro that reproducibly measures the transnuclear cross-sectional size of cardiomyocytes in multiple H&E images.
Methods: CmyoSize output per image are: mean cross-sectional area (CSA), CSA's local standard deviation (LSD), mean width, and width's LSD.
Introduction: Anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccine clinical trials did not include patients with immune-mediated conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease [IBD]. We aimed to describe the implementation of anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination among IBD patients, patients' concerns, and the side effect profile of the anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, using real-world data.
Methods: An anonymous web-based self-completed survey was distributed in 36 European countries between June and July 2021.
