Periampullary Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma Presenting as Acute Pancreatitis.

Periampullary malignancies are uncommon and encompass a wide variety of tumors. Early and accurate biopsy-proven diagnosis is important because different malignancy subtypes warrant different management and treatment plans. We present a unique and rare case of periampullary lymphoma, initially presenting as acute pancreatitis.

Diagnostic yield of bidirectional endoscopy for iron deficiency anemia in young patients.

Background: While bidirectional endoscopy is recognized as the standard approach for investigating iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in men older than 45 and postmenopausal women, evidence supporting the application of this approach in younger men and premenopausal women is scarce in the absence of symptoms. Our primary aim is to identify the diagnostic yield of bidirectional endoscopy in men younger than 45 and premenopausal women, and describe the clinical characteristics of those with significant endoscopic and pathology-proven findings.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review including patients younger than age 45 with IDA who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and/or colonoscopy at the Brooklyn VA Hospital between 2009 and 2023.

Simultaneous portal vein thrombosis and splenic vein thrombosis in a COVID-19 patient: A case report and review of literature.

Background: It is well-described that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection is associated with an increased risk of thrombotic complications. While there have been many cases of pulmonary emboli and deep vein thrombosis in these patients, reports of COVID-19 associated portal vein thrombosis (PVT) have been uncommon. We present a unique case of concomitant PVT and splenic artery thrombosis in a COVID-19 patient.

Ultrarapid Development of Ruptured Esophageal Varices in a Patient With a History of Heller Myotomy.

Esophageal varices commonly affect cirrhotic patients as a result of elevated portal system resistance. Blood pools within esophageal portosystemic collateral vessels, which can eventually rupture, leading to life-threatening hemorrhage. To prevent this, cirrhotic patients without a history of varices undergo endoscopic surveillance for varices every 2-3 years.

A bibliometric analysis of the 50 most influential publications on distal biceps repair.

Purpose: The purpose of this bibliometric study was to identify and analyze the most cited publications on acute distal biceps repair.

Methods: Using the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science database, we searched for the top 50 most cited publications on acute distal biceps repair and analyzed them based on various metrics.

Results: The top 50 publications were cited a total of 3171 times and approximately 151 times per year.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty vs micropulse laser trabeculoplasty in open-angle glaucoma.

Aim: The aim of this study was to prospectively compare the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) vs micropulse laser trabeculoplasty (MLT) in reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma patients.

Patients And Methods: In all, 38 patients were randomized to 360° MLT and 31 patients were randomized to 360° SLT. IOP was measured at intervals of 1 hour and 1, 1-6, 6-12, 6-24, 24-36, and 36-52 weeks.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective case series of 79 consecutive patients who underwent MP-CPC at the Wills Eye Hospital from March 23, 2014 to June 23, 2016 and who had at least 3 months of follow-up. Treatment success was defined as an intraocular pressure (IOP) of 6 to 21 mm Hg or a reduction of IOP by 20%.

Trypan Blue for the Assessment of Filtering Bleb Function During Cataract Surgery.

Purpose: Phacoemulsification has been cited as a possible cause of bleb failure in eyes with prior trabeculectomy. No method has been developed to directly evaluate the risk of bleb failure after phacoemulsification. We report two patients with acquired fistulas between the internal mammary and pulmonary arteries after coronary bypass surgery.
