Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the use of immunohistochemical markers (CK19, HBME-1, galectin-3) to improve the diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), which is increasing in incidence and is often inadequately diagnosed through routine histology alone.
  • Conducted at Babol University of Medical Sciences, the research analyzed tissue samples from 100 cases of PTC, using various statistical methods to determine the effectiveness of these markers.
  • The results showed that CK19 was present in all non-neoplastic tissues while HBME-1 and galectin-3 were less prevalent; the combination of all three markers provided the highest sensitivity and specificity, suggesting their usefulness for diagnosing PTC.

High concentrations of antibiotics have been identified in aqueous media, which has diminished the quality of water resources. These compounds are usually highly toxic and have low biodegradability, and there have been reports about their mutagenic or carcinogenic effects. The aim of this study was to apply zero-valent iron-oxide nanoparticles in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and the sonolysis process for the removal of the amoxicillin antibiotic from aqueous media.
