Antenatal depression in coastal South India: Prevalence and risk factors in the community.

Background: Antenatal depression is a highly prevalent disorder with serious implications on maternal and child outcomes. There are few studies examining this in low-middle-income community settings.

Aims: To determine the prevalence of antenatal depression in women from a coastal rural background in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and to determine its associated factors.

Predictors of depression among patients with diabetes mellitus in Southern India.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus and depression are major public health problems and are significantly linked with each other. This research study intends to assess for undiagnosed depression and its predictors among adult diabetic patients.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was done among 100 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus attending the diabetic clinic of a tertiary care hospital.

Barriers to discharge of patients from a government-run day-care psychiatric rehabilitation center in India.

Objective: Many psychiatric patients undergoing vocational training do not achieve successful transition to regular work. In this study, we evaluated the barriers for discharge from day care center to actual work place.

Materials And Methods: In a cross-sectional study at a government-run day-care center at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, we studied 76 patients who were undergoing vocational training for more than 1 year.

Successful use of maintenance electroconvulsive therapy in the treatment of clozapine-associated obsessive-compulsive symptoms in schizophrenia: a case report.

Denovo obsessive-compulsive (OC) symptoms are associated with the use of atypical antipsychotics, clozapine in particular. Treatment of clozapine-associated OC symptoms is challenging and often difficult because continuation of clozapine can result in worsening of OC symptoms, whereas discontinuation may result in worsening of psychosis. We report, for the first time, the use of maintenance electroconvulsive therapy, in clozapine-associated OC symptoms, in a patient with schizophrenia.
