Disordered eating attitudes: demographic and clinico-anthropometric correlates among a sample of Nigerian students.

Objectives: We set out in this study to determine the demographic and clinico-anthropometric correlates of disordered eating attitudes among undergraduate students of two higher institutions in Lagos, Nigeria.

Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 1,054 participants after written informed consent. A socio-demographic questionnaire, the Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26) and 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) were administered to the participants.

Psychological Distress and Emotional Pain Among Adult Attendees of a Dental Clinic: A Case-Control Study.

We set out to carry out a case-control evaluation of psychological distress and emotional pain among adult attendees of a Nigerian dental clinic. A total of 201 subjects, made up of 101 dental patients (test group) matched with age and sex with 100 normal subjects (controls), was recruited into the study. All participants completed a designed socio-demographic questionnaire.

Impact of emotional distress on caregivers burden among Nigerian children with Obstructive Adenotonsillar hypertrophy.

Background: Despite the significance of the role of caregivers among children with Obstructive Adenotonsillar hypertrophy (OAT), their caregiving experience and emotional well-being are given poor attention in research, policy and service design. This study represents a novel effort sought to investigate the burden experienced by caregivers of children with OAT and the impact of emotional distress on their caregiving burden.

Methodology: A total of one hundred consecutive caregivers of children with OAT were interviewed with designed socio-demographic questionnaire.

Toward the integration of comprehensive mental health services in HIV care: an assessment of psychiatric morbidity among HIV-positive individuals in sub-Saharan Africa.

Existing evidence from research supports the desirability of integration of mental health services into HIV care in order to mitigate the grave consequences of unattended mental health morbidity among People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). This study aims to find out the burden and pattern of psychiatric disorders that is prevalent among HIV-positive individuals attending a Nigerian-based HIV clinic. The study participants, consisting of 295 HIV-positive adults were recruited using systematic random sampling method.

Prevalence and associated risk factors of Kola nut chewing among secondary school students in Osogbo, Nigeria.

The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence and pattern of Kola nut use among secondary school students in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. The study also aimed to determine the association of socio-demographic variables (of the students and their parents) with kola nut chewing. A questionnaire consisting of socio-demographic variables, the stimulant use section of the WHO Students Drug Use Questionnaire was administered on three hundred and eighty-five (385) randomly selected students of the two Local Government Areas of Osogbo.
