Elucidating the genetic contributions to Parkinson's disease (PD) etiology across diverse ancestries is a critical priority for the development of targeted therapies in a global context. We conducted the largest sequencing characterization of potentially disease-causing, protein-altering and splicing mutations in 710 cases and 11,827 controls from genetically predicted African or African admixed ancestries. We explored copy number variants (CNVs) and runs of homozygosity (ROHs) in prioritized early onset and familial cases.

Though significant progress has been made towards malaria prevention and control in Nigeria, it is expected that the addition of new malaria prevention strategy, such as perennial malaria chemoprevention (PMC) can contribute to a more rapid decline in malaria cases. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with malaria and anaemia among children aged 2-18 months in Osun State.

Methods: Baseline data (2021-2024) were collected in 168 sub-Saharan Blacks and 93 European Whites in an ongoing clinical trial (NCT04299529), using standardized patient selection criteria.
One of the major and abundant environmental elements is water, which life existence on earth is depending on. However, degradation of water quality arising from natural occurrences due to anthropogenic that resulted in eutrophication needs to be guided. Indiscriminate harmful waste discharge and dispersion into the water bodies leads to water pollution.

Despite the fact that tuberculosis has a well-established treatment, little attention is paid to the quality of life of TB patients on treatment. Poor quality of life has been linked to lower treatment adherence in patients having TB.

Introduction: Studies on the relationship between a family history of hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy are sparse. We evaluated this relationship in patients with essential hypertension.
Methods: A total of 1668 patients with essential hypertension were consecutively enrolled in the prospective Federal Medical Centre Abuja Hypertension Registry.
Diarrheal diseases remain the leading cause of high mortality among the infants, particularly in the developing countries; Probiotic intervention for diarrhea has been an ongoing novel approach to diarrheal prevention and treatment. This study aims to characterize immunogenic and probiotic properties of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from human breast milk and neonates' faeces. The LAB isolates from 16 mothers' breast milk and 13 infants' faeces were screened and identified by 16 S rRNA gene partial sequencing.

The influence of the synthesized cellulose (0%, 2%, or 5%) on the quality of clove extract laden-cookies was evaluated. The optimum structure, morphology, and thermal properties of cellulose were obtained after geminating tiger nuts for 72 h.

Introduction: Cardiac surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass had been unavailable in Northern Nigeria and the federal capital territory of Nigeria regularly. Several attempts in the past at setting up this service in a self-sustaining manner in Northern Nigeria had failed. This paper is a contrasting response to an earlier publication that emphasized the less-than-desirable role played by international cardiac surgery missions in the evolution of a sustainable open-heart surgery program in Nigeria.

Method The study included 1,765 patients with essential hypertension aged 18 years and older from the Federal Medical Centre Abuja Hypertension Registry (FMCAHR). Participants underwent echocardiography and ECG following the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography guidelines.

infection is a health challenge. Although, antiplasmodial drugs kill the parasites, information on the effects of infection and drugs on the expression of some genes is limited. Malaria was induced in two different studies using NK65 (chloroquine-susceptible, study 1), and ANKA (chloroquine-resistant, study 2) strains of in 30 male Swiss mice (n = 5) in each study.

In recent years, understanding its coexistence with other comorbidities has been the focus of better management. However, the relationship between hypertension and depression or anxiety has been contentious issue, with diverse findings reported by different studies.

Background: Shisha smoking is a growing health concern in most countries and this habit of smoking tobacco is on the increase in Nigeria. It is on the rise among youths along with proliferation of clubs, bars and hotels all over the country. The increased use in Nigeria can be attributed to easy access to tobacco products.

Research in African and African admixed populations can enable mapping of complex traits, because of their genetic diversity, extensive population substructure, and distinct linkage disequilibrium patterns. We aimed to do a comprehensive genome-wide assessment in African and African admixed individuals to better understand the genetic architecture of Parkinson's disease in these underserved populations.

This study analyzed the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis from the angle of cyber-crime, highlighting the wide spectrum of cyberattacks that occurred around the world. The modus operandi of cyberattack campaigns was revealed by analyzing and considering cyberattacks in the context of major world events. Following what appeared to be substantial gaps between the initial breakout of the virus and the first COVID-19-related cyber-attack, the investigation indicates how attacks became significantly more frequent over time, to the point where three or four different cyber-attacks were reported on certain days.
