Visible Light Driven Metal-Free Photoredox Catalyzed α-benzylation and α-oxygenation of N-substituted Tetrahydroisoquinolines: Applications to Synthesis of Natural Products.

Herein, visible light mediated organophoto redox catalysed simple and convenient method for the α-benzylation and α-oxygenation of tertiary amines is demonstrated. Synthesis of novel thiophenol based donor acceptor organophotoredox catalysts 4 a-4 d were investigated along with commercial catalyst 4-CzIPN (4 e). A diverse biologically active α-benzylated tetrahydroisoquinolines and natural products such as (±)-Norlaudanosine, (±)-laudanosine and (±)-xylopinine have been synthesized under the optimized conditions in yields ranging from from 62-91%.

The effect of fennel seeds on pH of saliva - A clinical study.

Context: Saliva is an oral fluid that gives a protective effect against dental caries. Chewing of fennel seeds after food is a common culture in the Indian Sub-continent. A review of previous studies on fennel seeds showed that some of them have an anti-microbial efficacy, but there are no extensive data available on the effect of chewing fennel seeds on the pH of saliva.

The hybrid of organic conducting polymers and inorganic materials with ultralow thermal conductivity, which is a promising strategy for the realization of polymer based effective thermoelectric (TE) applications. In this work, ultrathin layered molybdenum disulphide (MoS) nanosheets/PANI nanocomposites are prepared by hydrothermal route. The effect of varying PANI wt% in the nanocomposites and its interface effect on thermoelectric properties are well investigated.

Ultrathin layered MoS nanosheets with rich active sites for enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity.

Edge-rich active sites of ultrathin layered molybdenum disulphide (MoS) nanosheets were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The effect of pH on the formation of MoS nanosheets and their photocatalytic response have been investigated. Structural and elemental analysis confirm the presence of S-Mo-S in the composition.

Hypocholesterolemic effect of quercetin-rich onion peel extract in C57BL/6J mice fed with high cholesterol diet.

Onion peel (OP) extract is known as a rich source of flavonoids, mainly quercetin. We hypothesized that OP has hypocholesterolemic effects. To investigate the effect of OP, C57BL/6J mice were divided into 4 dietary groups (=10); normal diet (ND); high cholesterol diet (HC); and high cholesterol diet with 100 or 200 mg OP extract (OP-100 or OP-200, respectively) per kg of body weight.
