Objectives: Our objectives were to ascertain: the prevalence and socio-economic distribution of hypertension, as well as the rates of undiagnosed and untreated hypertension; the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and the occurrence of hypertension, as well as the rates of undiagnosed and untreated hypertension; and the factors influencing the poor-non-poor gap in terms of the prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment of hypertension.

Design: Cross-sectional nationally representative study.

Methods: Data from the 2017-18 Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey were used.

Discovery efforts leading to the identification of cyclopentane carboxylic acid 31, a potent inhibitor of Na1.7 that showed high selectivity over Na1.5 and exhibited robust analgesic effects in an inherited erythromelalgia (IEM) transgenic mouse assay, are described herein.

Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using a plant extract has attracted significant attention in recent years. It is found as an alternative for other physicochemical approaches because of its simplicity, low cost, and eco-friendly rapid steps. In the present study, ()-mediated AgNPs have been shown to be effective bioadsorbents for methylene blue (MB) dye removal (88.

Signal quality significantly affects the processing, analysis, and interpretation of biomedical signals. There are many procedures for assessing signal quality that use averaged numerical values, thresholding, analysis in the time or frequency domain, or nonlinear approaches. An interesting approach to the assessment of signal quality is using symmetric projection attractor reconstruction (SPAR) analysis, which transforms an entire signal into a two-dimensional plot that reflects the waveform morphology.

In this work, the aqueous leaf extracts of three genus species, namely (), () and (), have been used as the reducing and capping agents to control the size of AgNPs, -AgNPs, -AgNPs and -AgNPs, respectively and found to be an effective antimicrobial agent against a wide range of bacteria and fungi. The biosynthesized AgNPs were studied by UV-Visible spectrophotometer, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). The average particle sizes of -AgNPs, -AgNPs and -AgNPs were measured as 17 nm, 22 nm and 26 nm, respectively, and observed to be spherical and face-centered cubic crystals.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) evolution has been characterized by the emergence of sets of mutations impacting the virus characteristics, such as transmissibility and antigenicity, presumably in response to the changing immune profile of the human population. The presence of mutations in the SARS-CoV-2 virus can potentially impact therapeutic and diagnostic test performances. We design and develop here a unique set of DNA probes i.

NBI-921352 (formerly XEN901) is a novel sodium channel inhibitor designed to specifically target Na1.6 channels. Such a molecule provides a precision-medicine approach to target -related epilepsy syndromes (-RES), where gain-of-function (GoF) mutations lead to excess Na1.

Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) who are in the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic are often under significant pressures that may predispose them to symptoms of poor mental health. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety and depression among HCWs and factors correlated with mental health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. And, it also aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Bangla version of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers utilized structure- and ligand-based design methods to create new Na1.7 inhibitors based on piperidyl chromane arylsulfonamide.
  • They improved the drug's effectiveness by refining its chemical structure and reducing its breakdown in the body, leading to the identification of a compound called GNE-616 (24).
  • GNE-616 demonstrated strong performance in experiments with mice and showed selectivity for specific Na1.7 isoforms, which was further studied through site-directed mutagenesis.

Predicting the class of gene expression profiles helps improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Analysing huge gene expression data otherwise known as microarray data is complicated due to its high dimensionality. Hence the traditional classifiers do not perform well where the number of features far exceeds the number of samples.

Janus bases are heterocyclic nucleic acid base analogs that present two different faces able to simultaneously hydrogen bond to nucleosides that form Watson-Crick base pairs. The synthesis of a Janus-AT nucleotide analogue, (N)JAT , that has an additional endocyclic ring nitrogen and is thus more capable of efficiently discriminating T/A over G/C bases when base-pairing in a standard duplex-DNA context is described. Conversion to a phosphoramidite ultimately afforded incorporation into an oligonucleotide.

Janus-type nucleosides are heterocycles with two faces, each of which is designed to complement the H-bonding interactions of natural nucleosides comprising a canonical Watson-Crick base pair. By intercepting all of the hydrogen bonds contained within the base pair, oligomeric Janus nucleosides are expected to achieve sequence-specific DNA recognition through the formation of J-loops that will be more stable than D-loops, which simply replaces one base-pair with another. Herein, we report the synthesis of a novel Janus-AT nucleoside analogue, JAT , affixed on a carbocyclic analogue of deoxyribose that was converted to the corresponding phosphoramidite.

Safety incentive and penalty (I/P) provisions in construction contracts are one of the most common forms of I/P. Contradictory opinions on the effectiveness of these provisions have been expressed in the literature. Statistics on safety provisions were collected from 32 construction projects, which include both types of contracts - those with safety I/P provisions and those without them.

The Pahans and the Telis are two of the smallest indigenous communities in Bangladesh. The Pahans, numbering about 14,000 people are widely scattered in several northern districts of the country, while the Telis are such a small community that nothing has been reported on their numbers and lifestyle. Both tribes are on the verge of disappearance.

The Santals form the largest tribal community in northern Bangladesh reside primarily in Rajshahi and Rangpur Divisions, where they live in the districts of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, and Panchagarh. Although they are fast losing their traditional medicinal practices, they still have their own medicinal practitioners who rely mostly on medicinal plants for treatment of a variety of ailments. The traditional medicinal practices vary quite extensively between the twelve clans of the Santals.
