Molecular junctions (MJs) exhibit distinct charge transport properties and have the potential to become the next generation of electronic devices. Advancing molecular electronics for practical uses, such as sensors, is crucial to propel its progress to the next level. In this review, we discussed how MJs can serve as a sensor for detecting a wide range of analytes with exceptional sensitivity and specificity.

Article Synopsis
  • Exciton-plasmon coupling is explored in silicon nanowires decorated with metal nanoparticles, leading to significant changes in photoluminescence and absorption properties.
  • A blue-shift in PL peak and increased absorption in the visible range indicate this coupling, highlighting the presence of plasmon-induced resonance energy transfer (PIRET).
  • Gold-decorated SiNWs exhibit a 38-fold increase in PL intensity compared to platinum due to stronger electric fields, with additional PL splitting suggesting complex interactions like dipole-quadrupole coupling enhancing PIRET.
