Disseminated gonorrheal infections with cardiac involvement are rare, with fewer than 100 cases reported. The increasing prevalence of gonococcal infections and increasing antibiotic resistance represent a concerning challenge to public health. Here we report a case of antibiotic-resistant gonococcal endocarditis presenting with cardiogenic shock and discuss principles of diagnosis and treatment.

Experience, exposure, and attitudes regarding off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting techniques in US cardiothoracic surgical residents: Results of a survey.

Background: We sought to determine the current level of exposure to and interest in off-pump coronary artery bypass and beating heart surgery techniques regarding cardiothoracic surgical residents in the United States.

Methods: An email survey consisting of 6 questions was sent to all cardiothoracic surgery residents of approved cardiothoracic training programs in the United States. The survey was emailed using the Qualtrics XM cloud-based survey platform.

Multi-objective optimization technique for trajectory planning of multi-humanoid robots in cluttered terrain.

Humanoid robots hold a decent advantage over wheeled robots because of their ability to mimic human exile. The presented paper proposes a novel strategy for trajectory planning in a cluttered terrain using the hybridized controller modeled on the basis of modified MANFIS (multiple adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system) and MOSFO (multi-objective sunflower optimization) techniques. The controller works in a two-step mechanism.

Particle Swarm Optimization aided PID gait controller design for a humanoid robot.

Gait planning for the humanoid robot is a very essential and basic requirement. The humanoid robot is balanced at two feet; therefore, special attention is required for gait analysis for the execution of assigned tasks. In this paper, the linear inverted pendulum (LIPM) model is considered to simplify the study and to obtain better gait planning of humanoid robot NAO.

Discordant findings on preoperative imaging for primary hyperparathyroidism and thyroid disease: Choosing the path to follow.

Background: Preoperative localization of abnormal parathyroid glands in primary hyperparathyroidism is often obtained by sestamibi, and ultrasonography. We aimed to identify which modality is most accurate when laterality of abnormal glands on preoperative imaging is discordant.

Methods: A single institution retrospective review identified 112 consecutive patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who underwent successful parathyroidectomy and sestamibi with pertechnetate.

A comparative study of phytoestrogen action in mitigating apoptosis induced by oxidative stress.

The phytoestrogens kaempferol, genistein and genistin were characterized using in vitro assays utilizing iodoacetic acid (IAA)-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. RGC-5 cells were treated with different concentrations of IAA, and phytoestrogens were administered along with IAA. IAA is cytotoxic to RGC-5 cells and induces the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in vitro.
